High Speed
 

I read that the 2019 Corvette Stingray Convertible would go190 mph! Any truth to that? The ZR1 suppose to hit 212. Any of you ZR1 owners done that. I would have to change my under wear at either speed.:yesnod:

FYI on the street I'd guess your average driver is using (at most) like 30% of the car. Even on track I can only manage about 80% due to lack of talent (and desire to live another day) despite hundreds of laps of experience.

Had my 2014 Z51 up to 153 at one point and just as stable at that speed as it is at 70.

(quite frequently hit middle triple digits on the way to the NCM in 2014 too :lol:)

I did see Jay Leno ad Tadge get a new ZR1 up to 200 on a race track. Thats the proper place to do so.

well several of us broke 160 on a certain track, and I was only pulling about 3800 rpms. even if I read the the tach wrong and it was 4800, I pretty sure I could have reached 185 if I had more track. handling was no problem. this done in a supercharged '13 GS.

Highest I ever got up to was 181mph in my Z06. I caught air at 174mph in my Z06 with Z07 stage 3 installed. It stuck when I landed and kept going. Fastest I ever hit in a regular stingray is 168mph. They are pretty stable at that speed. I was really impressed with it.

This was brought up in the C6 section awhile back; mainly with Corvettes and cars in general: The ability to go as fast as the car would allow vs personal top speed. I think we've all hit the triple digits, and I've done so in my C7 more than I'd care to admit. Personal highest speed was 135 in my old 2004 Hyundai Tiburon which will be broken in due time when the opportunity presents itself. C7 personal highest speed was 117 I believe.

Those who are saying that the high speeds don't feel like it when driving are pretty much on point.

Fastest for me was 135 in my 13 GS on a flat, straight, two lane road in Utah where I could see for miles. When I hit 135, the wife said "Ok, that's enough".

Will it? Probably 180... A Z06 or Zr1? Yeah. probably very close to 200... I spend about one and a half hours doing 155 on the German autobahn driving a BMW 328... It's VERY tiring. You must have CONSTANT ATTENTION. The car was easy, but it the other drivers that are a danger. (just like here...lol) And yes, I did get passed.. All manor of faster cars and bikes. It was interesting...

This question comes up from time to time, and people line up to volunteer how they've hit 160 mph, 175 mph, and so on. The truth is the car has a performance envelope that exceeds the capabilities of any but a small handful of people. Rated top speed and cornering capabilities have been published for all models at all aerodynamic trim levels, and are available for your review on line without a lot of research effort.

I always wonder about the wisdom of trying to explore top end capabilities anywhere but on the track. All a guy needs to do is hit a slight road imperfection at speed or maybe have some bit of nature fly up or jump out of the ditch at the wrong time, and there you are explaining yourself to St. Peter.

As remarkable and performance capable as these cars are, the track is without question the best place to go to prove your metal, and demonstrate your skill and courage as a driver. Trying it anywhere else is risky business at best.

Spot on! However some people may be disappointed with their track experience because max speed is not achievable as most road courses have too many corners. Triple digits are common so its not like you'll be going slow. You just need a really long straight to reach top end speed.

I like the comment about less than perfect road way. They may have to pick you up with an eye dropper after the accident.:nono:

The issue is where to drive it at its maximum. Hopefully, most of us aren't stupid enough to try it on public streets, as some have already said. Most of us don't have a paved or asphalted option, and I'd not bother on the Salt Flats, too high altitude for normally aspirated there, anyway. And, I'd not want to spend a year cleaning out the Salt! :lol:

If someone had access to an abandoned air strip, that would be a great place to safely stretch her legs.

There have been posts with videos of Autobahn cruising. Cannot remember top speeds.

Had my C5 '02 Z06 topped out at 172. The front end felt very light! Never tried top speed on my various C6 and C7 model Vettes. The Corvette brochures for awhile were posting top speed of different models, but stopped with the C7 models except for the ZR1
