Keep 07 base, or upgrade to a GS?

I've had my 07 base for about 2 years now and love it a lot - 76k, Corsa sport, z06 rep wheels, 6mt, audio system, 6mt etc.. However I would really like to get something a little newer like a 12-13 grand sport with lower mileage but not sure if it's worth the near 20k price difference. I still owe roughly 15k on my 07. Money's not necessarily the issue but more so common sense.. Keep going back and forth on whether or not I should start the search or do some cam/head work on the 07 and keep it until I own it out right.. any advice?

I wouldn’t unless you have the cash to do it.

Not too worried about the money since I pay about 75% more on my current lien each month to pay this one off quicker. Figure if im already essentially paying for a GS why not just have one.

Can you pay off your current rig or would you have to trade it in?

Technically I could but I wouldn't want to hit the savings that hard. I'd just trade it in if I were to find one.

you probably owe what the dealer will give you in trade so if anything its going to be a wash and you will just start over with a new loan term. good thing is you may not have any negative equity that has to be brought over to the new loan.
If you can afford it the GS and LS3 are nice.

You owe $15k on a 12-yr old, $22k car and money is not an issue?

Keep your 07.

Bottom line is ....... Do what makes YOU happy. If you want the GS, then go for it. Some maintenance items will be more expensive though (tires, brakes, etc). Make a pro/con list and see if you REALLY want to spend the money on it. Just remember that you won't get much back out of mods that you do.

You'll find a lot of guys here pay cash for their vettes. I have always tried to pay cash for mine since it makes it a lot easier to keep it parked all winter when you're not making payments. LOL However, I have a 2006 that I still owe on because I just bought it last year and was still moving around some assets and plan on paying it off when I finalize the movements. The funny part is, my 2011 GMC 2500hd is paid off..... having the car payment keeps me from considering going out and buying a new ridiculously overpriced truck.

Yep.. bought if off an old friend with a fairly low rate from the credit union. Didn't want to pay 20k out of the pocket at the time..

Yeah i'm leaning more towards keeping the 07 and just paying it off..I would like a GS but just the reality is, is that it doesnt make much sense financially :-)

Just think, in a couple years you'll have it paid off and you will have the "equity" in it to put towards the GS when you find one that you can't live without.

Corvettes are emotional choices, not financial ones. If you want a GS, just go ahead and get one. You've been hooked already, you're just going to end up doing it eventually

Life is short, you can always make more money. Buy the car you want and never look back.

jrose7004 12-04-2018 08:46 PM

If you owe that much on your current car then no, don't trade.

SUP54 12-04-2018 09:05 PM

I have a 07 base and plan to keep it a long time. It may not be the top of the line Vette, but it is still a Vette and looks, drives great. I would say keep the 07. Maybe do some interior updates, stripes, etc.

Why pay all the money when you have a good one!

Your 07 should be worth 22-24k private party depending on condition.

There are quite a few GS's within 200 miles of Dallas right now in the low 30's...

So I dont see how its a "20k dollar price difference" as you say above... It is around a 10k price difference from what you car is worth.

mjg1200 12-04-2018 11:28 PM

I just went through this for the past yr I have been thinking about a GS convertible. I have had my 09 Z51 for over 3 yrs still had a loan on it so I was looking then I found one that was exactly what I was looking for for 35K so I jumped on it then sold my old one in week. my payment is a $100. more a month no regrets I say if you want it go for it if the right car comes up.

Only you can decided if it's worth trading for a GS. I have a 07 I bought new and have also considered getting a GS. At that time the price delta was quite a bit larger, and I decided it was not worth it to me.

Turns out my 07 has been a fantastically reliable car. 209,000 miles and going strong. Best of luck whatever you decide.

I just bought an 11 GS vert for the VERY low 30's...

Keep in mind that OP states he still owes $15k on his 07, so he will not reap all value from his trade.

...but I'll echo what others have stated - if you can handle the payments, the heart wants what the heart wants.
