Lovely but whenever I see an old car with black or dark wheels I think someone stole their wheel covers.

The Photograph of this wheel looks nice. But for me, Dark wheels or black wheels are a missed opportunity to show off your car. Dark wheels get lost in the shadows. I see lots of cars today with dark wheels and they do not impress me. Its simply a matter of taste. Some wheels are way over the top, some are too docile. Some trimes a heels that looks great off the car, looks less than great on the car. Some wheels that are questionable off the car work real well on the car. Color of the car also adds or subtracts from a wheels. I happen to see and all black 2019 Mustang. dark tinted windows etc. I noticed it had black wheels which faded in the shadows, they could have been 5000 dollar black wheels or some cheap 100 dollar wheel that was plasti-dipped black.. Ive seen a few black wheels that had a little red in the cap or a red thin line with bright work rotors and calipers behind . Like I said, the thought of putting good wheels on a car to make a statement gets lost with most black wheels because unless it is under the best of lighting, it gets lost. n the shadow of the wheel well. Just my opinion.

Like the deep dish style and color for your ride

thank you!

I like the style but personally I'd rather have a polished lip or at least polished hardware, something to break up the black and add some contrast... do what makes you happy though, ultimately that's what matters

04zjimc 12-05-2018 09:28 AM

Thanks for the honest answers...all great points..i have time to decide..

grantv 12-05-2018 09:36 AM

I on the other hand like the color and overall style, particularly with gray, but don't like how busy they are. Not a fan of the fasteners.

04zjimc 12-05-2018 09:43 AM

This is my other option.. all polished

Royal pain in the ass to keep looking good, IMHO.

Black looks fantastic, and will show off the car just fine. I don't know how all the people using highly polished or chrome wheels can find the time to appreciate it when they're so busy cleaning them all the time.

Much better. I'm with some of the others here. Just not into the dark wheels.
I think the dark wheels look even worse at night.

neutron82 12-05-2018 11:14 AM

I much prefer the second choice but if you look closely it isn't fully polished, the centers are brushed clear which would make them a lot easier to clean... you could also have the barrels cleared to make them easy to clean and you could experiment with different color hardware as well

For your silver C5, I'd go with the first set (black)

I really like the way the dark CCW wheels look.

On the corvette facebook group dark wheels versus chrome was a highly divisive topic, right up there with fixed headlights over pop ups.

Not trying to ruffle feathers just reporting my observation, the consensus I saw is that polished/chrome is more popular in the over 50 crowd and that dark wheels are more popular with the younger crowd. Regardless I don't care what either crowd thinks I do mods for myself based on what I like. I had polished CCWs a couple years ago and switched to black forgestars felt it was more to my style. I have a torch red corvette and feel black wheels give the car much needed contrast. Either way the wheels will look good just a matter of what's more your style. Below is a picture of my setup with TPE wide fenders. Good luck making the selection on what YOU like.

I'd say there is no contrast. It's almost like you can't see the wheels due to the black tires which are already the contrast. But that's just my opinion and yes I'm over 50. LOL 😉

Lots of lost opportunities on these cars. ( black tires, black wheels black wheel wells.. Just some photos of silver C5's with black wheels. they seem the beg the question, " Where's the wheels ? "
