Windshield Trim Removal Tool
Has anyone used this tool instead of the Wiggler? I want the easiest tool to use and one that will not chip the windshield.

No but should work fine. You might have to peer under the trip to map out the locations of the clips rather than just slide the other one along until it locates one. I think if I had a good windshield I would still put a couple layers of duct tape around the edge for the tool to slide on.

I borrowed one and didn’t have much luck. I used a very unorthodox method but it worked to get the windshield out and trim. I took the sides and top trim off. Not sure how easy this would be with the dash in but the following is from page 18 of my build thread. First thing I did was take the razor knife and go around the sides and top of the weather stripping horizontal with the glass. This removed the outer lip of course. Then I went perpendicular at the glass edge and went around all three sides. I started to cut the inside of the lower edge weather strip but decided to see how stuck the windshield was first. I used a little pressure on the top driver corner and started to go across. Before I knew it the windshield started coming free. I got a better angle to hold and as I pushed the top out I was able to start lifting up from the driver lower corner. Out came the glass with the remaining weather strip. After the glass was was out I removed the trim clip screws and removed the trim. |
Thanks for the information. I myself only want to remove the trim to have it straightened and polished.

Yeah, you don’t need my method. Lol. I couldn’t get the clips to release with that tool but I’m sure it was operator error. Good luck. |
I’ve had very good luck with a set if picks, you can pick them up at Harbor Freight. I use the one with a 45 degree angle and slide it along between the trim and the rubber. Once you reach a clip the pick will slide under and with a slight rotation will pop the trim loose from the clip. Still no fun, but much better than destroying the trim. Good Luck! Rob |

I used the red tool to start with, never liked it, even less when one end broke off.
I ended up making my own from 1mm stainless steel. Worked great . Cause it's flat, it glides nicely over the windshield without scratching. Now this I like. What is the thickness of the stainless steel stock?
Do you have any dimensions so I do not have to recreate the wheel? |
thickness is 1mm (european measure) , or 0.04" which is a tad more than 1/32". Meaning it flexes which is very handy. I'll make a drawing with measures, I actually made it from a stainless steel ruler.

here is drawing, print it out such that it's 7 inches long and then you have all dimensions. The dotted line is about how to hold it along the trim contour.

How is the tool used? Slip it between the trim and windshield rubber and do what with it? I know there are clips underneath but what do you want to do with the clips using the tool to release the stainless? Sorry for the dumb question....:thumbs:Dave |
