Couple of questions on coupe drip rails
 

For the members that have traveled down the drip rail repair path I'm asking for some advice.
1st. Is it better to apply drip rail polyurethane sealant before or after zinc primer? I'm thinking before but I believe the factory applied the sealant after primer back in the day. I am using Eastwood internal frame coating in green
2nd The drip rail weatherstrip holes have had larger screws used in them by previous owners along with extra holes on the drivers side. The factory size screws no longer work in the larger holes. Is there a method to correct this? I think I can JB weld the extra holes. I'm not sure which holes are the correct location for the weatherstrip.

When I painted my 66, I sealed the metal drip rails with PPG DP90 first then seam sealer over that. As an important note: I purchased the weather strip that is screwed to the drip rail from LI Corvette. two of the holes in the weatherstrip did not line up with the original holes exactly right. I welded up the old hole and drilled a new hole in the proper location on the new weatherstrip. Buy the new weatherstrip now to determine if you have the same issue I did. Also when establishing and adjusting the door fit install the drip rail weatherstrip during this process. This way you are ensured the door fit at the roof line will be exactly where you intend it to be. Making coupe doors fit right is a pain to do but once you get them right it is worth it. This is what sets an OK car apart from a really nice car, That and the headlight bucket fit. Those are the first 2 things I look at when looking at a mid year coupe.

Thank you for the input Dave. I was hoping that maybe I could use some plastic inserts as I am doing on the rocker channels for the sill plates. Do not know if the projection of the inserts would interfere with the weatherstrip sealing. I do not have the equipment or skill set to weld so if I went that route would have to farm that out. Welding that close to the fiberglass worries me and I am afraid of creating more work for myself. I was thinking of applying the sealer first as I believe the paint might fail before the sealant would. Maybe someone else will offer their input on this. Thanks again.
