1967 Corvette, what color is the "GM" emblem that's suppose to be on the end of the door above the male part of the latch. I looked it up to order the emblem and they offer it in green or blue?

I tried the search with no luck.

I suppose you want the green, though I've always considered the 67 GM Mark of Excellence emblem to be turquoise. The blue emblem was used 69 Corvettes, and various other 68-69 GM cars.

Well I'm so confused. In the pictures GUSTO14 posted the top 2 look blue and the bottom 2 look turquoise. I was even told that some people say they were blue and faded to look turquoise.

That's what I would suspect, since I know the second car is all original. :thumbs:

Interesting, Walter, that the three latch screws on the "original" car are unpainted. TIM&JG calls for these to be painted, as the latch assembly was installed prior to paint. I've been docked on this every time my car gets judged. Also, the lower window channel retaining screw has a washer on it and the screw in not black...according to the "gospel", there are not supposed to be any washers present and the screw should be black like the upper one. Again, if this is a known original car, then it once again opens up the question of how accurate the TIM&JG truly is.:hide:

From personal experience, I know if I have found the heads of the bolts painted in that manner, in most cases I will remove them one at as time and remove the paint, just because I don't believe it should be there. The same pertains to the washer under the screw, if there isn't one there, well there should have been, so I will likely put one there. I may have to rethink that now, although under the circumstances, my OCD may not permit me to have a car judged now... :D

In that location they certainly didn't fade from exposure to sunlight, but perhaps some chemical degradation in the dye might have occurred. I'd go with the blue.

When I was going over my car with the painter he said the screws were stainless and the factory would put a little cap over the catch and then spray. That’s why you see a little over spray on the catch. He said paint didn’t always stick to the chrome so some would flake off over time. I know the red car above has chrome screws but wonder why. Did they paint the door first before assembly of the catch, did the previous owner wash and scrub the paint off or were both catches replaced for some unknown reason? Who knows. If I remember the story on that car it did have a repaint, or at least partial due to a leak in the building where it was stored. If so the painter may have cleaned them up. I may be confused with another car so I apologize in advance if I am wrong.

Edit. Just looked at the thread and it did have a repaint in 86.

:iagree:same on mine...............never any other color for a 67............:thumbs:

Edit to my above reply. I think screws were chrome and not stainless. They painted over the chrome screws and quick mask on the catch.

The originals on my unrestored '67 GTO are turqoise, identical to the bottom unrestored car photos GUSTO posted, FWIW.....

I just checked the emblem on my 67 that I am currently in the process of painting and the color is blue . I just removed the drivers side emblem as it was just sealed and primed tonight . As far as I know this is an original emblem. Hope this helps. Jeff
