PDR SD card

I just bought a SD card for my PDR and it doesn't seem to work. Is there a specific type of card I need to buy. I simply picked up a 32 SD card from the local CVS.
Thanks for your help.

Format it for FAT32 and you'll be good to go

Yes, re FAT32. Also, some CD cards have sliders on the side to lock them. Make sure yours isn't locked.

I have no idea how to format to FAT 32. Without creating a computer 101 workshop, is this easy to do?

I'll send you a simple to use app that will format it correctly, at least on a PC. I don't know if it's compatible with Apples. Just download it & you can format your card in less than a minute & you'll be good to go. I'm running a 64GB card but there are others who run 128GB cards etc....

Mac OS can natively format to FAT32, you just have to specify it in Disk Utilities.

OP, if you're not computer literate, enough, but have other accessories (dash cam, action cam, cell phone...etc) you can use those to format the SD card. 90% of dash cams and action cams will format the card in FAT32.

make sure the little switch on the side is not set to 'ready only' or the car will not see it at all.

little tiny slider on the side.

I bought this for my PDR: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just plugged it in and it worked.

Good point - the write protect tab is enabled by default on some brand cards

I've used two cards; both worked right out of the package.

I have witnessed that the PDR likes to see (sense) the insertion of the card for the first time. Try starting the car, wait about 30 seconds, then insert the SD card. Wait another 30 seconds, then launch the PDR program.

Just wondering if the OP checked price/availability from Amazon.com for the PDR 32 card. Lots less $ IIRC.....

I use a 32 GB Class 10 SD Card with no problems.

LIStingray 12-08-2018 12:05 PM

A 32 gb SD card should not need to be formatted as it can't be bigger than a 32 gb block of storage, which is what FAT 32 formatting does for cards that are 64 gb to 512 gb.

Formatting SD cards using the Windows format command can cause "issues" in certain applications...
There are a number of programs that are available for formatting SD cards.

mdolandese 12-08-2018 11:09 PM

I also got the 32gb card and it worked right out of the package without doing anything. Why doesn't his work?

Sigh.

Perpetuating the stereotype that this is an OLD man’s car...I can’t believe the level of, or the lack of computer technical know how of THIS group. It’s like my dad asking me to program the VCR all over again.

FAT32 refers to 32bit architecture of older windows operating systems, like Windows XP before NTFS is widely adapted inlater iterations of Windows. The 32bit architecture limits physical partition size to 2 TB (off the top of my head?), not 32 GB. There are other limitations such as file size limit, but you can format just about any SD card in FAT32.

In fact there are multiple 500GB hard drives on my desktop computer that’s formatted FAT32.

ok, so if everyone else can use a card right out of the box, what am I doing wrong? My PDR still cant read the card. I hate to take it back to the dealer but I see no choice.

Read or write? Your original post simply said it doesn't work

You have to format it FAT32. I don’t know how many times this needs to be repeated.

Some cards don’t come formatted, or they’re formatted NTFS because FAT32 is an OLD standard. No Windows 10 machine can natively format FAT32, you need an app like Rufus if you have Windows 10, or throw it into another machine/camera/whatever that can format it, as most cameras format in FAT32.
