C8.R / Z06 / Grand Sport

Most of us have read unlimitedPower's post "Corvette Manta Ray: GM's bold new plan". Most of his points make sense to me and seem reasonable. I was especially interested in his statements regarding the base Corvette, the Grand Tour version and the track oriented Grand Sport.

The base version and the Grand Tour version ring true due to GM's use of a high front hood which guarantees a larger frunk which is necessary to provide the increased luggage space that is required for a mid engine Grand Touring car.

Re the GS version, he goes on to state that "those who have driven the GS tell me that it is literally frightening to floor it". This statement obviously implies that the GS, in some version, has been and is available for testing. My theory is that what we have been calling the C8.R is actually the GS. I did search the internet looking for a picture of the C8.R's chassis which would provide some proof as to whether or not the C8.R is a racing prototype or a variant of the production C8. However, I was not able to find anything definitive.

Has anyone seen the C8.R up close? Is it possible that it is actually the Grand Sport?

I certainly hope so since it certainly looks and sounds the part!

Zero chance, real race car with sequential gear box,
Thats not a street car.

I don't believe it. I certainly don't think any of the mules on the road look particularly "frightening to floor it". I think someone has an active imagination and a desire to see their stories being quoted by all the small enthusiast websites that don't employ good journalistic practices and simply repeat the stories. Just read it with amusement and then go on with your day.

In the pictures of what's supposedly the C8.R a full roll cage is visible, center lock wheels, and polycarbonate windows screwed into place. Doubt you'd see any of those items as options on a road car.

I know youre joking, right? The C8R looks nothing any road going C8 will ever look like.
Im in shock reading some of these posts. Wow.
Stay off the crack pipe. Its warping your brain.

Actually, I am hoping that the Grand Sport looks exactly like the C8.R. But, with air suspension for practicality, etc.

I don't really get your skepticism since the C8.R is not that different looking from a typical McLaren, etc.

i did a rendering of the c8 street car with simple “aftermarket “ parts of the c8R added. Big Wing, bigger scoop (maybe”. Vented hood and front side canards and windshield wrap simulating the visor shape in the c8R images. Pretty darn close looking. With added ground effect side skirts it’s a dead ringer. With air conditioning and stereo! : ).

I susspect the zr1 variant will look similar.

The differences/similarities between the racecar and street car will most likely be comparable to the last three generations. Same basic shape with the racecar having exaggerated proportions.

That is a full on race car, anyone who thinks otherwise needs to put down the pipe. Looks wise I wish it was the street version but it just isn't the case.

I agree with this. The only difference is that it seems mid engine cars aren't AS exaggerated.

Note the substantial differences between z06 and c7R.

Note the much slighter difference between the 488 street and race car. No huge difference in body panels, width etc. This I believe is because the mid engine platforms are closer to race specs to begin with.

I am not talking body panel details like vents and flairs, but actual dimensions and proportions.

I believe there will be differences in the R vs 06 versions but less exaggerated and the zr1 variant will be a streetable version of the R car... at least as close as the Pista is to the GTB.

The Corvette race car looks like a re-bodied funny car version while the Ferrari body is essentially the same
