New 2013 ZR1 to me, need tire and wheel recommendations please
 

I recently bought a low mileage 2013 ZR1, the 60th anniversary package in white and gray strips and Cup wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Great car and love driving it but need some tires that hook! Bone stock at this time, mods to come in future. I need some recommendations for a rear tire that hooks better than the Michelin's that will fit on the Cup wheels. Can you guys help with a tire that will be a DOT compliant tire that would help it hook as now it just spins in 1st through 3rd gear!

Additionally, can you also recommend a rim and tire combo in 18" or 19" diameter that would be used with stock ZR1 brakes for some qtr mile passes or spirited highway rolls? I don't intend to drive the car in the rain but living in SE Texas you never know when you may get caught in some isolated showers so would like a tire that hooks better with some grooves just in case of rain.

I'm in the same boat as you. Just got my '09 back yesterday evening after having a few go fast parts installed. (Headers, pulley, drop in air filter.) Haven't had a chance to get on it yet, but the car sounds fantastic! I'll be going with a square 19" setup in the spring, and have been looking at Forgestar wheels. There are nicer wheels, no doubt, but for a weekend warrior, occasional 1/4 car, they should be perfect without breaking the bank.

I've got 19" signature wheels with r888's that hook pretty well. They make 18's that will fit the brakes with no modifications.

20" you are limited, may want to look at MPSC's (Cups), Toyo makes the R888R's in 325-30-20 but that's 27.7 tall, which is really pushing the limits of rubbing at stock height. From what I read it will rub during hard shifting and hard corners.
19" replica wheels are pretty cheap and opens up more possibilities, 345-30-19's - NTO5R's or R888R's
18" wheels that fit over our brakes start getting pricey except for Forgestars. Lot's of 30 and 35 series options in 18"

If your car is not hooking in 3rd with stock or close to stock power levels then your tires are old and have heat cycled hard. Does not matter how much tread you see, they need to be replaced.

If you can afford it then 6 Forgestar wheels would be a great option. 19" fronts and 2 sets of rears, one set 18" and one in 19". 345-30-19 R888R's for normal play and 325-35-18 MT ET street R's when it's time to get serious. You want to keep this set off the car most of the time as they will heat cycle out fairly quick.

There are no cheap options, only expensive and real expensive!:cool: If you want to play with your ZR1, you will have to pony up!:thumbs:

It's all relative I guess, maybe I should have said "less expensive option" :). Here's what it cost me, for just under 1500 bucks I got two 19" reps, TPMS's, two 345-30-19 NTO5r's with mounting/balancing. My gloss black Forgestar F14's 19x10 fronts, 18x12 rears with 325-35-18 MT ET street r's mounted and balanced cost me 1970.00 shipped on Black Friday. After pricing a set of Forgelines with R888R's, it seemed pretty cheap lol. (Before anyone says it, I know Forgestars are not even in the same league as Forgelines)

I spooned on some sport cup 2's last year and couldn't be happier. My tires that were on at purchase were aged out and wouldn't let me use first gear at all. I don't drive my car in the rain on purpose but did get caught out once and had zero issues.

I run with CCW's with 18" wheels all around. 11" front 13" rear. Since I track my car, 18" tires are way less expensive. As in 500-700 a set less expensive. Three sets of tires and my wheels are paid for! (bought them used for a good price).

Tire selections are limited with 19" x 20" or 18" all around when I am looking for a tire that sticks with out going to Hoosiers. I even considered 19" on all 4 corners but 18" tire prices were better than 19".

My 2013 also came with cup wheels and the Michelin's that came with it are okay for easy street driving and running it down to the local oil change shop for our State inspection!

Best non drag radial - Michelin Cup2
Best Drag Radial - MT ET Street R
Best Runner Up - Toyo R888r

My ZR1 makes around 1100 hp and when the roads are warm I can get them 20" Cups to work pretty well.

I have a brand new set of CCW Corsair C10 in 18x10 and 18x12 that will bolt right up for $4k Picked up in Austin Texas. I loaded a few pics, they are black, that rear looks grey do to lighting. The wheel & tire is not mine but shows you what they will look like mounted up.

I need a place holder here. I got no traction this weekend on my stock tire at 60 degree weather

I decided to buy a set of Forgestar F14 in 18" X 10" fronts and 18" X 12" rears in Gloss Gunmetal, should be here by mid February. I am still deciding on what tires to run on them once arrived but looking at 285 35 18 for fronts and leaning towards a Toyo R888's in 335 X 30 X 18" for rears. I want to avoid any issues with ABS or other lights due to size of tires suggested to use. Let me know if these will work?

Stay away from anything taller than 27.5 ish in the rear and keep the front within 1.2 or 1.3 of the rears and you will be fine.

Thanks for the reply on the tire size as I want to avoid any headaches on tire sizes. What do you think of the Toyo's R888, will they hold my soon to be installed mods: E85 sensor, 2" Kooks headers, upper pulley and tune for both 93 and E85 CAI and reinforcing the bricks. Hoping for 640-650 rwhp when done.

I had a friend run 175 in the half on them this past weekend. I have used them several times, my only complaint is they are really noisy on highway road trips. When you have drone and tire noise together it can get a little overbearing at times. If I were running 20x10 & 20x12 there would be NO question I would run Cup2's. They require an extra hit or so to warm up over the R888 but they are so much quieter its worth the trade off.
