Is 14.5% off MSRP the best I can do?

Thinking about moving up to a C7 and have been offered 14.5% off MSRP to order one from a Forum dealer if I order this month - 1LT Stingray coupe with A8. Just wondering what everyone’s opinion is and whether I should try for 16-17% off. I’m hoping the discount might be sweeter in January or February when Corvette sales seem to be at their lowest level, plus there might be some incentives from GM. Thanks, everyone.

Rebel Yell 12-16-2018 04:36 PM

You can try for 16%, but you may just piss off the dealer. If you're at 14.5 off of a 1LT the dealer isn't making any money to speak of as it is. I'd just take the deal, and not embarrass myself. Remember, there isn't that much mark up on cars anymore, and the dealer has to make a little money to stay in business. Good luck.

:iagree:I agree with Reb. If you like the dealer it is a fair deal especially for an ordered car. There might be bigger discounts in 2019 to get rid of dealer stock but this is a nice discount on an ordered car.

is the 14.5% off for a special order from the factory or a car from the dealers current inventory? Depending on which it is has a lot to do with being able to answer your question.

14.5% discount off MSRP on a factory order is good, 10%>12% is more typical. As Rebel says, he's not making much on that C7 at such discount. If you want the car I'd advise going for it.

dvilin 12-16-2018 05:18 PM

14.5% is a great deal I would be a buyer.

Skid Row Joe 12-16-2018 05:50 PM

I believe that you are at the breaking point "-14.5%." I'd order at that number. :yesnod:

mschuyler 12-16-2018 05:54 PM

It's a good price. If there were going to be super deals this winter, they'd already be here.

Mayor111 12-16-2018 06:08 PM

Just an alternate way of thinking...you can do alot better - buy used and save 30% to 50% off MSRP depending on the year...AND you can get a 3LT, with all the bells and whistle. No one drives these cars, so you can get one with under 5000 miles and save alot higher percentage than new... Used, 3LT, with 5000 miles at a 30% to 50% savings vs 16% off a 1LT (which will be harder to sell down the road)... Sort of a no brainer... Good Luck either way cause a C7 is an amazing car.

JerriVette 12-16-2018 06:14 PM

I would wait until january.

i think if the rumors of 20k units in exces ivnventory are true......

we will discounts in 2019 reach upward of 25 percent.

in the past........the final year of PRODUCTION .......the unit sales of each chevy dealer determines the allocation of the next generation corvette they get to sell.

my feeling is youll pay the same price for a higher option vehicle next year.

JK 23112 12-16-2018 06:38 PM

If that is for a new factory-ordered C7, then GO FOR IT!!!!!

If you can spare the cash, though, ante up for at least a 2LT. You will be happy that you did. If you know how to drive a manual transmission, GET ONE. From everything I have read about the upcoming C8, they are NOT going to be available with a stick-shift at all.

I have a 2017 that I factory-ordered and I could not be more pleased with it. If you could put up with buying a used one, there are a lot of folks such as I who keep them garaged & never take them out during inclement weather. Let some other guy take the depreciation hit - so to speak.

Of course used is always an alternative, as is buying C7 from dealer inventory however OP states he's negotiating to order new. In regard to buying used, I personally wouldn't purchase a used 3LT considering a spent or diminishing warranty and the risk of having to deal with a leather dash issue and possibly a $3,000 repair. Additionally, I've seen no indication as to 1LTs being harder to sell, lots of C7 buyers prefer them. Typically what you find sitting on dealer lots for a year or two is 3LT Stingrays.

14.5% off on an ordered car is a great deal! There may be better discounts later on in stock cars, but you may not get what you want.

Wgg2017 12-16-2018 06:59 PM

If ordering I would go ahead at 14%. Have a hard time believing you'll do much better than that.

Now if buying from dealer stock, I would say you can do much better by being patient and shopping around. I got my new 2017 z51 3lt with mag ride in May of this year (2018) for just $51,700 and only 17 miles on the odometer. But I had to spend hours searching dealer inventory and drove 9 hours to pick it up, too. It just depends on the specific options you want. All I cared about was z51 package, mag ride, coupe, and manual transmission.

If you want a hint, call up Chevy's customer service, tell them exactly what you are looking for, and they can search the entire country for dealer inventory. Far better than searching manually. Then you can pit one dealer against another, if it comes to that. I got lucky and found a dealer who really wanted to unload a Corvette lol.

mdolandese 12-16-2018 09:30 PM

I'd buy the car it's a good deal go for it

Skid Row Joe 12-16-2018 11:53 PM

There's no way you or anybody is going to order a new 2019 C7 "upwards of 25%." NFW......

No doubt solid advice. There are plenty of barely driven used cars for ridiculously low prices. No one wants to buy a Corvette in winter so if you do, there are serious deals out there.

Avanti 12-17-2018 12:56 AM

Imho, what exactly you want and how emphatically should determine which way YOU wish to go, as much price.

For me, I'd not touch a used Vette... period, unless I personally knew the seller and well. As for "all the bells & whistles," again, your call, but some of us would pay extra for LESS such crappola. But, as for price, per se... believe what you've already been told. If you can find what you want from stock you'll be money ahead. All the best and ENJOY, no matter how you opt to go!!!! :yesnod:

Really? What’s the thought process on that? I mean I’m talking nearly new..but used. Practically full warranty, mint condition...just a whole lot cheaper than new. Corvette is a car that most people tend to take extra good care of plus if you have the warranty, if something does break you are covered. Why not save a ton of dough and put some of what you saved on it towards making the car even more awesome and still be under the cost of a new one?

Perhaps solid advice and perhaps not, depending which "used" C7 a purchaser ends up with. There are plenty Corvettes (both new and used) purchased over the winter months.
Certainly a lot of unsolicited advice being offered as the OP never mentions any interest in buying used or from existing dealer inventory.
