Rochester QuadraJet 7042203 Carburetor

Looking for a Rochester Q-Jet 7042203 carburator. Needed for an early 1972 L-48 4-speed, no A/C, no A.I.R.
Build date is October 25, 1971 (Engine dated October 12, 1971), so anything date coded prior to and including October 1971 would be good.
Please let me know if you have one. The bootlegged Rochester I'm running now has to go (per Lars), and I'd like to find the proper replacement.

Fingers crossed. Thanks!

Thank you for the reply. If it is the original carburetor, do you know the build date for your car? If you post a photo of the date stamp on the left side of the carb, I can look into it to see if it works.

Thanks!

I think a date code of H1, J1 or K1 or 2382 to 2912 would work. I don't fully understand Rochester date codes.
My 72 car was built on the 298th day of 1971, so I think those numbers work (???)

Hello,

I have a Q-Jet carb available, from a 72. Base SB motor, manual trans. Numbers: 7042203, Dated 2156. It's in decent shape. all parts free, fairly clean, and primary and secondary jetting numbers are correct. Have added a pick up tube, so the 4 inside the carb are there. Would need a more complete cleaning, and a carb rebuild kit.

Will send photos if interested.

Hi Fred,
Thank you for the reply. Definitely interested. As I mentioned, I'm still trying to figure out the date coding. I would like to find something that is appropriate for my build date.
The 2156 date confuses me. I thought the las digit was the year of manufacture. (i.e. 1976). I've also read the the 2 in 7042203 is the year of manufacture, not the model year of the car. I have a 1972 that was built in 1971. How does that work?
I would appreciate the photos when you have the time.
Thanks!

Here are a few photos of the carb I have available. 7042203 Julian date 2156. Can't tell you much about it.. extra part from a project car...

Model is correct, Julian date may indicate a mfg dating 215th day of 1976. Other forum members would be able to clarify this.

Thank you Fred. I did run it by the C3 Tech forum, and a member confirmed that it is a replacement manufactured in 1976.
I will hold out to see if a correctly dated one comes along (although your's with a rebuild is probably better than the Frankensteined mess I'm running now :D)
I will keeps your's in mind (wouldn't be suprised if someone else scoops it up).

I bet there's someone here on CF that'll take that off of your hands.

Sorry I know if you see a reply it gets your hopes up but every time I see this one go to the top I'm rooting for you.

I've never seen one dated before B2 and I look at eBay everyday and have been doing so for years.

It took me a over a year to find a July one for my August of 71 built 72. I got lucky to find that one. I have a few later ones for your car if it comes to that. I hope you find one but it will take time and some luck.

Joey
