Brake booster followup
A1 Cardone " new style steel booster" was delivered from their tech lab in the same box with SAME PART NUMBER as the old plastic POS. WARNING TO FORUM MEMBERS : there are still numerous plastic boosters in inventory nation wide and the parts counter people are clueless about the new .improved (?) steel unit. REFUSE any plastic booster handed to you over the counter. this situation will continue for an indefinite period of time. beware.

Part number for both old and new unit is 51 - 71405 . no telling what flavor will come out of the box......

new style was installed today , mechanic tells me it is working . how long it will last ? who knows.

Aussie brake booster
I see my '93 has a made in Australia sticker on the booster. I assume it is the original booster as this car was imported from Reno to New Zealand. I'm thinking there must be a version of this booster fitted to most likely a Holden Commodore so maybe this is another source for replacements?

When mine went bad, hissing and a hard brake pedal.. I bought an AC Delco rebuilt part number ACDelco 14PB4300. Listed as fitting 92-96. Looked on Rock Auto and they now show it having a 24 month warranty. mines been on since April 97 without any problems. |
Happy to hear they actually car about older replacement parts.

Picked up car today. brake pedal has never felt better . Pedal is quite high and solid feeling (12 MILES OF USE) Now , IF the booster will just last long enough so I can trade up for a C6.....OR I might just keep the CE and own a stable.

If if you have headers I guarantee you it will fail again. The booster is close to the exhaust so I put some heat shielding on the side of my booster to keep the header from cooking it. Just go to the parts store and get some fiberglass cloth that has the reflective heat shielding on one side and use the reflective heat tape to hold it on. |
