Gains going to a 26 inch slick from a 28

2004 Z06. 28x10x17. Best 60ft. 1.62. Stock 3.42 gears.

Will I gain anything by going to a 26 inch slick?

Best 1/8 mile is 7.02 @ 103 mph so far.

Merry Christmas!

What rpm are you seeing at the finish and how much rpm drop between shifts now? I lost .3 going from a 26” to a 28” in my ctsv fwiw.

I'll have to look.

I keep seeing that with my current 3.42 gears, mph should go up with the 26" tires. Hmm....

You wanna be going through the traps at or even 3-400 rpm above peak hp rpm. A 26 will get you out of the hole a lot better too.

Nice. I'll be stoked if I can kiss 6's and increase mph.

Your major issue here will be actually finding that 26" tire unless Mickey decided to start making it again.

There are a lot of variables here, are you taking about 28" to 26" radials? Slicks? from slicks to radials? Radials to Slicks? Etc.

for example, On my car, I had both 27" drag radials, and 28" slicks. I took the car to a good track, where I was hooking on both, While most will say the smaller tire will give you a faster ET due to gearing, In my case the car still ran faster on the Slicks than on the radials. Reason why is a bias ply slick is much lighter than the Drag Radials. The runs were done back to back, same day and both dead hooking. Even though bias ply slicks have more rolling resistance than a drag radial, the radials were also 2 inches wider per tire, so the rolling resistance might have been very similar. so at the end of the day, I was a couple hundredth faster on the slicks than on the radials.

28 inch slicks to 26 inch slicks. Both bias ply.

Then it should net quicker times, but you will also have less available traction. So as long as you can hook on both then you should be fine. let us know how it goes.

You lost .3 seconds on a C4 going from 26" to 28" ??
I drive 28" Hoosier QTP´s on my 85 Vette with the DNE 4+3. This makes me wondering if I should try the 26" diameter. What you think?

CTSV, which is a Cadillac.
