(2) lt engines

383 short block is sold.
lt4 motor staying in car, not for sale.

i have (2) lt engines for sale. whichever sells, i am keeping the other one to go in the 96.
the first one, which is still in the car, is an lt4 which has been rebuilt and has approx 200 miles and 1 dyno tune on it and runs. the rebuild consisted of block work: hot tanked and checked over, line honed the saddles, decked to 0, honed the cylinders as it didn't need to be bored. rods were resized, crank was polished, pistons were checked and cleaned, reciprocating assembly balanced. oil pan was dipped to clean all buildup or debris. lt4 heads were milled to flat and 3-angle valve job performed. springs were checked and shimmed to height. installed new crank, cam, rod bearings, rings and freeze plugs. arp main studs also installed. new oil pump and timing chain, accel cap and rotor, seals and gaskets.
engine consists of short block w/ gm hot cam ( .525/525 w/1.6 roller rockers ), lt4 heads and intake manifold, lt4 valve covers, throttle body, harmonic balancer w/pully, oil pan and stock exhaust manifolds if you want them. with the gm hot cam and 1 5/8" headers this engine made 362 rwhp and 357 rwtq until about 4700 rpm's we started getting ignition problems, we thought. after we got back to the hotel from the dyno tune, i started hearing 'that knock' which sounded like a rod so we towed it back home and it sat in the garage as i was going to drop in the 383 that has been setting on the engine stand until about a week ago. i was in the process of pulling the rack out and removing the balancer, the bolts were loose and the balancer just fell off. i guess the vibration from the balancer was being picked up by the knock sensors and retarding the timing. so bolted the balancer back in and started it up, no vibrations, no knocking. there is oil in the pan and coolant in the block so i was able to run it for a minute or so and took some videos of it, but it seems they will not upload. if interested, e-mail me and i will send them to you. asking $3000.00 plus shipping and paypal fees if used.
please dis-regard all the blue tape with writing, they are my way of identifying where things need to go upon putting back together.

thinking $1,000 shipped conus. about 1/2 of what i paid for the set.

migander 01-07-2019 06:52 AM

On the short-block is it internal balance front and rear or standard balance?
Standard balance being internal front external rear.

it is standard balance so you can use whatever flywheel/clutch combination you want and have it balanced separately before installation.

"Standard" crankshaft balance on an LT1/LT4 is internal front and external rear. Rear is balanced via the flywheel.
This means if you want to change flywheel or clutch after the fact the new flywheel/clutch assembly must be match balanced to whatever combination is being removed.

Maybe I should have asked if the rotating assembly is "neutral" balanced meaning one can use any combination of flywheel and clutch as long as the flywheel and clutch are "0"/"neutral" balance.

Sleazy Rider 01-07-2019 02:31 PM

i guess it is 'neutral balanced'. i can take whatever flywheel/clutch assy to him and he will ' 0 balance ' it. then when i install it on the crank, everything will be balanced.
i hope this makes sense.
