The L99/L92 and LS3 in the Camaro had this option (DOD) but never in the C6.

Thanks to technology we can have high horsepower and get 30s for MPG. You'll have the chest beaters that say "oh you should have bought another car if you're worried about that, blah blah, real men do..." but I've built the huge HP engines that got 6 mpg and that shit gets old quick. This was back when 500-600hp was considered "huge" in a street car. Now that's barely competitive when a stock Mustang, Camaro or Base C7 comes off the lot with near that.

Sure I didn't buy my vette because of fuel mileage but it's also nice it gets high 20s for MPG with comfort features.

CAFE/ corporate average fuel economy regulations have forced manufacturers to get creative in making cars more fuel efficient. Cylinder deactivation is one of the engineered methods to accomplish that. My C7 Z06 has it but it's a 7 speed manual that I never drive in Eco mode, so it never rears it's ugly head.

Manufacturers did it to have a certain percentage of their cars meet the new EPA standards.

An all aluminum small block that makes 500hp with options for dry sump or forced induction that fits under a factory hood isn't forward technology? Or we could be short sighted about every technological advance and still be running POS big blocks for power with dogshit handling characteristics getting 3mpg struggling for 700hp.

I read in an ls book that the LS2 and up has the provisions for it, but it's not used.

No AFM/DOD in LS3(in any vehicle). Camaro SS stick shift cars with LS3 do not have AFM. Fyi

The L99 had cylinder deactivation in the Camaro but the LS3 did not. Auto trans cars got L99, M6 cars got LS3,

Thankfully no! My 13GS gets 23-25mpg around 80 mph so that is good enough for me. I also hate the darn auto stop on cars especially when you park since it starts the engine back up when you put it in park just so you can turn it off.
