Scammer alert
Hi
Please can you help. i paid nmerhaut a deposit yesterday for tires and he disappeared and is not responding to messages. He went to UPS store and got his friend to pose as a worker. he then wanted more shipping money as he was all out of cash apparently. I called the UPS store and no one answered. When i called him and the UPS worker all calls were rejected. End of story. my arrangement was i will pay him the rest of the balance with paypal if he shows me the tyres with the UPS shipping invoice. Never heard from him again We have included your original post below: https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...e63ad3433d.png https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...5fee7dc6c0.png https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...3875522b8.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...8bc526d49.jpeg |
Based on the text message exchange you posted, I believe you have been scammed, but the scammer is someone other than nmerhaut. I recognize the phone number, 865-272-6018. as being one used by a scammer who has registered multiple user IDs at Corvetteforum, PMed people to contact him via text for a deal on items they have posted WTB threads on. There are warnings about the scam in the Transaction Feedback section ...
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...nsactions.html https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...mer-alert.html ... and each PM that goes out includes a caution about doing business with new users who have no track record on the site. My best guess is that you gave the scammer your phone number -- either by PM or by posting it in a thread. Then, he contacted you to sell you tires he didn't have using pictures posted by nmerhaut or someone else and, perhaps, telling you he was nmerhaut. As I posted in nmerhaut's sale thread, I find no indication there is any connection between nmerhaut and the scammer who contacted you by text. This scammer's pattern is to register an ID, start sending PMs to people who have posted WTB threads and then shifting the conversation to text. When someone reports their suspicions, we ban the scammer and he registers another user ID. My recommendation is that you immediately do what you can to reverse the payment you have made to the scammer. I hope the payment was made through PayPal using a credit card. If so, make sure you let PayPal AND your credit card company know you have been scammed and want to reverse the charges. If you have funded the payment sent to the scammer through a method that isn't possible to reverse, I'd strongly encourage you to report the scam to an appropriate law enforcement agency so they can try to pursue a case against him. |
Response to Axiocam from nmerhaut
Dear fellow member,
After seeing your correspondence concerning the purchase of tires, and with the help of the Moderator I finally realize what has happened. A scammer apparently has used my name and pictures of tires from somewhere but they are not mine. I didn't post any pix in my ad and I strongly stated that I would not ship. In addition the phone number in your correspondence with the scammer is not mine and not even in my state I believe. I'm sorry for your misfortune but I am not the cause of it. It is my understanding that the phone number is one used several times by the same scammer, who when he is discovered and censured by the Moderators returns to the Forum under a different name. I hope you get you money back, but I strongly urge you to contact your local police and if a telephone was used, it may even be a federal offense. Please refrain from posting negative comments about me as they are not true and you have the wrong person to blame in me. Thanks, nmerhaut |
Justice would be someone visits this guy and brings along a louieville slugger.
