Clutch Hydraulics Slave and clutch master 2019
 

PSA:
Most parts houses will sell you crummy cast steel replacement pieces(Grey,Rough surface) instead of O.E. style stamped steel (painted black, smooth). Do not buy them! They usually don't work well.

Well since Jim Jandik's Power Torque shop closed,we will need someone else to handle clutch hydraulics.

For the clutch master cylinder,
Bill the ZF Doc with ZR51 Performance can rebuild an OEM smooth extruded steel/ black painted clutch masters. Trouble is finding an OEM to rebuild. Search here in classifieds,Ebay, or Corvette salvage yards

For the clutch slave,
ZFDOC (.com) rebuilds them too if yours is original. But alternatively,
You CAN buy brand new correct steel replacement slave cylinders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
Do NOT BUY the clutch slave from Wilcox corvette. Their picture online shows it as correct steel slave but unfortunately I received a crummy cast steel/ grey replacement instead. He said this happens all the time, but he still hasn't changed the picture on his site to match what he is selling. He told me that no one is making a steel one anymore.
So I ordered another from VETTE2VETTE and received a nice oem style steel replacement. :willy:
Corvette Central also appears to offer the correct steel replacement slave. Just more $ there. I have not confirmed CC's slave. Someone try it.

Bill is rebuilding another master for me right now. Great guy.

Much better than the shop that was paid to install the last clutch master that Jim had rebuilt, not so great guys. Never installed it. I found this out when I was doing my brake booster and saw a rusty crappy silver cast china garbage master cylinder. No wonder this thing still doesn't shift smooth. Save me Bill!

interesting. About 15 years ago, there was a major problem with slaves coming from GM (uh, not the human kind, either). They would last about 3-5 months then leak like a sieve.

Come to find out, they installed the main piston seal backwards. Over time, they were unable to support the pressure and pop they went.

I was not going to get caught in that mess, so I bought a cast part from NAPA. Made in Taiwan. Now, Taiwan has some serious world class manufacturing. Good stuff. And that slave is still in my old 1992 Coupe... sitting in my buddy's garage in GA (sold it 2 years ago to pay off my C6). However, that slave gave no problems. I suspect the difference here is the source. The ones you are concerned about are from China and are, most likely, junk,

I dont see it on the V2V website. I tried calling g but they were busy, so I emailed and it was returned as undeliverable. If they dont have one, where is the next best place to buy?

Just get a Napa, why waste money? They will hold up for many years

Here’s my solution to the problem of not being able to find good clutch hydraulics. I bought a parts car for my zf swap and the slave was pitted from sitting for a long time. I used the tube from a stainless steel Bimba air cylinder with an 1 1/6 bore and bored out the slave for a press fit on the tube. Remachined the groove for the retaining ring and installed a new piston and seal. Works great and I’ll never have to worry about it rusting and pitting again.

I emailed them (V2V) yesterday and they said they still do have the slaves in correct OEM style extruded steel. No masters.

I bought the cheap aftermarket cast steel ones, and they seem to work fine.

my painted factory ones were rotted and leaking because that's what thin painted steel does.

Are these just stock replacements? Any options for a bigger slave? I know Mcleod used to make one that had an adapter to work on a c4 but it’s been discontinued.

Don't think for a second that those cheap cast cylinders wont rust. If they get a little moisture in them they will pit very quickly.

Of course. That's why I use my side by side for mudding and off roading and my Corvette for dry summer days.

I know corvette people are not content unless they've been fully raped by parts houses, but I own a fleet of vehicles, hot rods, etc and I've been using parts like this for decades without issue. There are places where you absolutely don't cheap out like cranks and connecting rods, but for stupid stuff like slave cylinders it's not an issue.
