68 corvette radio knobs

The 5th and I think newest edition of the 68 - 69 NCRS judging manual, says that early 68 Corvette radio knobs were metal. ''I highly disagree''. Has anyone seen a set of these that they are sure were metal ? Thank you for any help, Joe

I had a '68...many years ago. I remember what those knobs looked like, but I don't remember them being metal. And, unless they were die-cast, it would be very hard (and costly) to create that shape knob in metal. I'm thinking black plastic with some vacuum-chrome trim on them.

Joe, my previously owned 68 SURVIVOR, were certainly plastic.

FWIW- my car is a Jan 68 build, has most of the early features, and has plastic knobs

I've heard that but never seen any. My April car has plastic knobs.

I have owned my 68 since 72. Very original. April build and the radio knobs are plastic. Jerry

Per NCRS,

Interesting, also per NCRS 4th edition, they say the 68 radio knobs were metal. Some are painted silver on the center bar and outer ring and others are chrome on the center bar and outer ring.

I thought my 68 knobs were plastic with a chrome coating like 7T1vette said, but maybe mine are repro's which is hard to believe. I am pretty sure my knobs are original though. Will look at them again.

I am restore a 68 Oct 67 build. The knobs are plastic. Mine is pretty early.

68 Radio knobs.

I agree with you guys 100 %. I have a very early 68 built in September of 67. It had the original interior in it untouched ( ratty ) condition. The knobs were plastic with chrome or silver paint around the outside of the rear cup, and the bar in the middle was just black, no paint and no chrome. If the manual means early , being before the first 800 cars then I might believe It. Thanks guys keep me posted if you hear anything. Joe

I find it very hard to believe that early 68 radio knobs were made of metal. It would probably be more costly to make them. Do any older GM cars have metal radio knobs?
I think that there would be a shock hazard with them. Lou.

Dec 67 plastic.
