lightweight racing batterys

Im looking to go with a small light weight battery that I can mount in the right side foot well. Ive looked a few and there are mixed reviews on them all. Antigravity has a 780 cca that is under 5 lbs. Braille has a few light weights that are under 10 lbs. What is everyone's experience with these and do you have any other options?

Uses a cheap Deka powersports battery in my C5 racecar for years.

Check out Battery Tender batteries too. I THINK Deka makes them though.

3.5lbs. I use it in my c5. Won’t start the car when it’s in the 30’s but I just use my pocket jumper and the car starts. They have a larger version as well that is probably still pretty light.

I've been using the Deltran 480 amp version that weighs something like 4.4 lbs for nearly 3 years on my C5 and cannot believe that this $225-ish battery is still working. I keep it on a lithium battery maintainer when the vehicle is stored and always take a "real" battery with me to the track as a backup because I still can't believe this tiny battery starts and runs the car with no issue.

The newest version has automatic shut off from over and under charging according to their website which is a very important safety feature IMO when dealing with lithiums.

DEKA, quality American made product.

I go to WalMart and buy the cheapest, largest, heaviest battery I can fit and put it where is helps balance the car (behind the passenger seat on my C4). Free ballast. I get about 5 years or so out of Wal Mart battery.

I've had the anti gravity battery for 2 years. 0 issues, spins the LS7 over with ease.

My 2 Deka ETX18L last 5+ years, were $90 shipped. 1st one lived its life starting a blown LS2 and this one is still kicking on my 12:1 LS7

Will the Deka ETX18L hook right up to the stock cables?

yes I forget where I got them but you need two screw on post because the ones provided are for something smaller they weren't expensive I forgot about that

The ETX18L is a great battery but at ~16lbs not sure I'd call it a lightweight battery.

The Antigravity ones and Braille are great, but pricey. I had a Battery Tender lifepo one that was like 3lbs and worked great, but needed to be on a tender for any long period of time, like 12 hours or more it'd drain.

JG uses an Antigravity in the GRM C5 and seems to love it.

I guess it just comes down to cost and what you're willing to pay for those last few pounds. When the stock battery is something like 44 pounds that's almost 30 lb worth of savings for $90 I guess if you're looking for an extra 10# savings and willing to pay over $300 then that's up to you.
as a note Braille has East Penn Manufacturing (Deka) make their batteries and they just re brand them and the price.

RapidC84B 01-11-2019 10:09 AM

Has anyone found a small battery that will accept the C7's postiive rear fuse block that secures to the battery case? The OEM C7 battery is massive and heavy.

smitty2919 01-11-2019 12:06 PM

Also depends on whether or not you want to lose weight wherever the battery is. For corner balancing/ballast purposes.

Sure there are better ways/places to ballast but just throwing it out there.

I would do it on my 95 LT1 camaro where getting weight that far up front on an already nose heavy car is a good thing. But since the C5's location is between the front axle and cabin, may help in weight balance

Thanks for the info!
$100 for a 15lb battery looks a little more attractive to me than $300 for a 5lb one.

Hi Volts Z06 01-12-2019 09:53 AM

Same here. I use the 11 lbs unit and it always does what a I need. I would replace them every 3 years though.

The ones that the high dollar and endurance race teams use now is the ml30c lithium braille that costs 2099.99. It weighs 9 lbs. Im going for something a little cheaper.

On my C6, I bought the battery from Amazon ( )
and used these terminals on top ( )

Then I bent up a piece of metal and put a couple of bolts down through it to hold the battery down to the stock battery tray.

Deka ETX 18L battery at Hi Tech Battery Solutions for $89 shipped, best price I found!
