PowerStop front brakes do not fit
I have a 2017 Corvette Grand Sport Coupe with the two piece iron brakes. Yesterday I took my car in to the local Chevy dealer for the front and rear pads to be replaced due to excess dust.
The front pads went on with no problems. Front pads did not fit as they were to long in the vertical direction by approx. 1/4". Part number is Z26-1405. The part number printed on the front of the pad is 01405 20180801 PWR-015FCS-HG-R18. PowerStop is being very helpful so far but it's the weekend. Any other Forum Member installed these pads on their GS with two art discs? Your solution? |
Just did my '19 GS with no issues
|
I’ve done these on 3 with no issues (and also on an SS 1LE, same pads). No issues you must’ve had some mistake in your set bud, sorry! |

Post some side-by-side pics of the stock pads and the PowerStops. If all matches up, it’s the mechanic. If they’re clearly different shapes (backing plate and/or friction surface), they sent you bad pads. I have them on my ‘19, they fit like OEM. |
Part number is Z26-1405 is the part number I purchased 2 years ago. Fit perfectly.
Bought Power Stop Z26-1718 for the rear brakes. They also dropped right in. No issues 2 years later. |

Call Power Stop directly , they have an excellent customer service dept. |

Thanks for the replies. Are the cars that the brake pads have gone on equipped with the two piece rotors?
Can't post a side by side picture as had to put the originals back on to get home. But I was standing next to the Shop Foreman and the new pad would not go on as they were too "tall". Comparing the PowerStops to the factory pads, the steel "back plate" is approximately 1/4" over size. I've been talking with PowerStop and they assure ,me they will replace the pads with pads that fit. |

I purchased a set of PowerStop front and rear brake pads for my 2017 Grand Sport with the two piece rotors. The rear pads went on perfectly but the front pads did not fit - too tall by about 3/8". PowerStop cofirmed the part number and sent a replacement set but these also do not fit. Part number is Z26-1405.
Anyone had this problem and if so, what was your solution? I can order a set of CarboTech but don't want to run into the same fitment problem. George |
Some pictures of the “don’t fit” example might help. |
Mine went right in..... on our '17 GS.... no issues. Do you think possibly someone put the wrong set of pads in the box marked 1405 ?
Z26-1405 front and Z 26-1718 rear. |
did you buy your GS new?
Pictures of the calipers/rotors and the brake pads next to stock would help tremendously here. Otherwise everyone is just guessing. If you bought the car used, it sounds like someone may have swapped calipers. If you bought the car new, then the pads have to be the issue. Either way, pics would help everyone to see what's going on. |
I installed mine about two years ago and had no fitment problems. Like others here I suspect your issue is a part packaged in error. Do the pads show the same part number as the box? Like Marcho said, a photo with stock and Z26 together would be a good reference.

I have the Z26 pads as well. Slid right in place without any issues. Maybe take some measurements of the pads and contact them directly to confirm dimensions. |
Two plus years for the Powerstops on my Z-51, slid right in place, no dust, no brown, no problem.

Now is your chance to throw em in the trash where they belong!!
LOL - just stoking the fire's for fun gents don't get triggered They should look like this. GL https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...f4e5ae5175.png |
I picked my car up brand new with 4 miles on it from the local Chevrolet dealer and have changed nothing on the car. When I was at the dealership having the brake pad exchanged the pads coming off were Brembo. As I needed to get the car home we reinstalled the front factory pads so at present I don't have a pad to give the dimensions. Should have written down the info printed on the Brembo front pads but did not thing of it at the time. I will try to get a friend to help me lift the car and get the dimensions next week.I went to a suggested kink and sure enough the the dimension for a spec brake pad is 7.46" and that is the dimension that is causing the pad to not fit into the caliper as far as I can tell as the pads would not fit into the caliper to see if anything else did not fit. I was standing next to the shop foremen with this was being done. I did see the dimension I was calling too tall is actually the width.T |
Travelor, have you made sure the pistons are pushed back out of the way. They may be out just enough to keep the new ones from setting all the way down. Just a thought.
