Tach Help

1974 LT1 : Installed elbow connection on tach cable and connected everything but tach needle would not move so connected cable end to drill and still nothing so just thought I would put drill in REVERSE! and that made the needle work and tach works as it should. What is wrong?

Sounds like the tach drive cable is not plugged in well at the distributor. FWIW: if you clock the distributor correctly, you can eliminate the elbow connector.

First therr is no such thing as a 74 LT1. They stopped in 72. As for the tach yes it operates in reverse. Most likely the cross gear is toast as it is a common thing to happen. The right angle device is just because the dist as said above is clocked incorrectly. Yank the dist rebuild the tach drive portion of it. You may need a new shaft and cross gear but it can be done. When you reinstall it set it in correctly and ditch the 90 degree adapter.

Thanks, it's an L82. Hope I am not starting to lose it, just turned 80. Considering all options.
