This should bring all the "if it ain't a shift, it ain't a sportscar" guys/gals out of the woodwork once again.

My daily drivers and toys have pretty much always been manuals, however glad I got a A8 in my GS.

A recent US News & World Report article reported that only 18% of US drivers can operate a manual shift.
Only about 23% (last % I heard, 2017, I believe) of total C7 production has manual transmissions.

Any poll should pretty much follow along those lines.

I prefer an automatic. Easier and actually a faster shifter w/ better MPG's. That being said, on the C7 (except for the 2014), I would advise buyers to go w/ the manual. My experience w/ the A8 (and my buddy's 2015 3LT A8) has not been good.

2019 Z06 Convertible with M7.

Oh boy, I can't wait to read about all of the guys that have to "row" through the gears to feel at one with the road, or "I feel more in control" or "if it doesn't have 3 pedals its not a real Corvette" or "if it doesn't have a manual, I wont buy it" or blah blah blah

LuisZ51 01-12-2019 09:03 AM

Stick shift all the way until my old diabetic knees can't engage the clutch anymore! 😁

Tom/99 01-12-2019 09:04 AM

I wanted an eight cylinder Corvette. With the manual transmission, it stays in all eight cylinders, all the time.

has it been 3 seconds since we've had a poll/thread on this topic already? wow, time really flies....

My guess is this poll will be about 55/45 in favor of automatics- as opposed to the real total stats of only 23% sticks. Go to a car show and count the vettes with sticks and with autos and you will see near a 50-50 ratio-I have done that on several occasions and that is what it came out. I think the same will hold true with a forum. When the smoke clears in a few days, I would bet that the stick % is closer to 45 than 23.

For purposes of this thread, i have a stick.

it basically happens in a lot of threads, especially when the discussion is around the A8 and the problems that people have had. It's pretty inevitable that someone will chime in "glad I got an M7" etc etc.

Have fun....

My last 2 new vettes were A8 which i like but with all the TC issues we read about, I may would have gone with M7 in hindsight.

LarryFL 01-12-2019 09:58 AM

They make automatic Corvettes? Why? All in jest. :seeya

One thing I would suggest... if you are on the fence for A8 vs M7, get the M7 as the default. My un-scientific observation is that by far, most regrets come from the auto side. Also, for the retired crowd, if you are not too feeble to get in and out of a C7, lose the excuses, because you're probably not too feeble to stick your left foot out a few times per minute.
Flame on!

Do you feel the same way having a stick in city driving?

City driving, you mean like all the time? Yes, that would suck with an M7, especially in hilly areas with slow traffic. If you are in that situation, I wonder if a Corvette driving slowly through traffic, is the best bet. The GMC Denali is better choice. :D
Of course, everyone has their own situation, so depending on the purpose, commute, road condition, wife-also-drives-and-needed-her-permission, etc, you pick what fits your situation best.

Like in politics, there are 2 camps, and the only discussion left is for convincing the few folks in the middle. And to them I give my humble opinion and say, get an M7, since there is more chance of regret with an A8.
