Sill Plate Screw Holes
 

Hello, I have a '71 that I'm changing the interior on. When I bought it, it had most of the interior removed already, including the carpeting. Now, as I go to install my new carpet, I notice the sill has no holes for the sill plate screws. My question is, are there some sort of plastic insert that is used for the screw holes, or are they just drilled into the fiberglass sill? I'm sure my car had them originally, but the car got repainted and someone must have filled them in or something. Thanks, as always for the endless wealth of knowledge on this forum.

No inserts just straight into the glass/metal underneath
if they were filled it should just pop out the filler (try pushing an awl through the sill holes first. If it has been actually glassed in or replaced, mark the hole using the sills and drill)
Keep in mind the sill plates, quarter trim and kick-panels are all related position wise, not the carpet / floor edge so much

You kind of lucky most of the time the holes are oversized and you have to fill and drill new holes. Start with a smaller bit so the screws are tight don't over size the holes right off the bat.

Thanks for the pictures and info. I will start with a small bit and slowly go bigger.

There are screws for this purpose with a bigger diameter and the regular size head.
