1970 Rochester Quadrejet Carburetor

Looking for a Rochester Quadrajet carburetor for my 1970 Big block 454 ci 390 hp, manual transmission, no air.
Part number 7040205. My car is an early February 1970 so I believe I need a date code above 310 for 1969. So the date code range should be between 3109 to 3339.
Please let me know what you have.
I also could trade a 850 Holly.
I also have a set of very nice big block large port heads and matching intake manifold.

Thank you

That carb has been advertised on eBay for the last few years....by the way. I'm looking for the same one myself! i seriously doubt it's authenticity, as it's missing the coveted 'decellerator' attached to the throttle.

Carb availability

I have a two owner unrestored 70 454 that was built on January 12 1970 and it has a June of 70 carb on it. The person I bought it from never replaced it and he purchased the car in 1975. My thoughts are that there must have been something wrong with those early carbs and they were replaced under warranty otherwise there would be a lot more of them out there!

You are doubting the authenticity of that carb due to it missing the decellerator?
If it had it the carb would be priced $200-$400 higher.
As far as the date code goes.... It has the very same date code as mine.
I've owned mine for over 20 years.
I compared the stamp on the eBay carb to mine and it is identical right down to the 2nd zero in the part number which is a light hit on the left side of the number.

In my opinion it's legit or they were both faked over 20 years ago at the very same time.

***EDIT*** I just rechecked the price and I think he is high without having the decellerstor. He needs to be $200-$400 lower.

I've tried to post pics of my part # and date code but the forum is not posting them for some reason.

Good luck, seriously. I've been looking for that exact carburetor for years. I know E-bay has them time to time, but I just don't fully trust that resource on such a rare carburetor. I hope you find it.

I completely agree - my card is 100% correct, except it comes up as a 'warranty replacement' if I look up the number. Build was Feb 19 1079.

Well, as I mentioned, I have seen this exact carb picture posted on eBay for the last 4+ years from this builder, so that would make me wary of authenticity. Missing the decellerator simply added to my doubts. I picked up one genuine one about 6 years ago for $350, but the body was warped badly and the date was a little late. Between us Corvettes and Chevelles, there's few and far between, it seems.

Thank you for the input so fare..
If I don't find an original at a decent price, I would be wondering what type, style size ect... carburetor would you recommend to mount on my original intake manifold.

Has anyone had any experience with a company called I5 they said they can sell me a Rochester MV4 style carburetor with a part number of 41-5901 for $315 I know this would not be an original carburetor however the originals are very expensive. This type of carburetor might be a stopgap until I can find the correct date coated carburetor

I think your is a 1972. Thanks for letting me know about that one but at this point I think I’ll still search for the 7040205 as that is the one that matches my car.

The date is a Julian date. Reading from bottom up the picture shows a carb built the 332nd day of 1969.

For a carb that would be good for a March 1970 build date, go back 6 calendar months from the build date of the car to establish the beginning date range.

forman 04-25-2019 09:53 AM

Im sorry i cant help with the carb and this one is not mine I was just wondering how the date code worked thank you ,, I will look in my area to see if anyone has anything thats affordable I know they can be expensive ,, I would look on nova sites and other car sites o sniff one out

Do you know who a Lars is. apparently he knows a lot about carburetors so I want to ask him what would be the date code range that would best be suited for my vehicles build date.
