block question
 

When I bought my 76 we decide to build a new engine and swap it out so I could still use the car . We used either 74 or a 78 block from a chevy pickup . Is that good or bad ?

Just as good if not better than the block that was in the car originally.......it is fine.
FYI.....Truck crankshafts of that era were cast but were a stronger nodular iron casting.....this can be denoted by a "NT" cast into the counter weight. Damn good crankshft....I have put 8-9psi blower boost at one with no issues on a studded 2 bolt 78 model block ;)

A block is a block. Have your machinist look it over go from there.

Some years ago a local Large scrap yard had an ongoing agreement where they got retired school buses with sbc. All motors were greasy-red & had 4 bolt main, 2 piece rear seal and Forged crank. This wasn't a junkyard where they typically sold parts but typically only a scrap crush-recycle plant. But the yard owner campaigned a circletrack supertruck so those buses became a welcome motor resource for his team and others'. May God always bless and keep the late Don Brewer.

I know for sure its a 2 bolt and pretty sure its a 78 .

Unless you're planning on pounding the beejeebers out of it with 6000+ RPM all the time, a 2 bolt block with good internals will be fine. Even then, chances are if it's good to start with, it won't cause you any problem.
