How much is a '67 big block original car worth

I've been asked to help someone locally here in Englewood, FL (SWFL gulf) sell his 1967 390 HP big block that he has owned for 35 years. This is out of my C1 comfort so I'd like some ideas. It's an original car repainted in 2017 (marina blue). It has side pipes but he has all of the pieces to return it stock. Black interior, PS, air, 4 speed.

Price?

67's 01-16-2019 10:28 AM

Between $50K and $300k, not enough info provided, pics would help.

biggd 01-16-2019 10:34 AM

Nicely optioned car. I would say 100K on up depending on condition and originality. I doubt you could touch that car for under that if it was drivable and mostly original. But ya, the description is incomplete.

Bluestripe67 01-16-2019 10:35 AM

Consider the non original aspect of it being repainted and equipped with side exhaust. This reduces the original % down from 100%. Is the drive line, engine, trans, rear original to the car as produced? What condition is the engine, milage on the car, engine rebuilt? It's best if you can post pictures, especially the engine pad alphanumerics. Dennis

I would be a ready buyer on car if you figure out a price.

I'm not to far away, Pine Island. We may be going up to Manasota Key and Boca Grande next week. I could take a look.
Let me know.
Paul

Given the lack of pictures, I would agree with this except we know that the car is Marina Blue. Color can have a big impact on value. Black, red, and to a slightly lesser bit, silver are the colors that are valued the most. The blues are in the middle, then the yellow and white, and finally maroon and green. Original 427 67s do bring more than restored 427 67s because there are so few of them. Unfortunately, since your car has been repainted, many would not consider it to be an original unrestored car and would likely put it in the restored group. The rest is condition. If the car's appearance were truly great, as a blue 390HP 427, I would value to the at about $125K-135K. If it were a well worn car but mechanically sorted car - maybe $85K-$90K. $50K would be for a car needing restoration.

Edit: I should mention, and perhaps it is obvious, that 435s are worth a lot more than either 400 or 390 67 427s, and 400HP 67s are worth a bit more than 390HP cars. The pricing I noted above is my opinion for 390HP cars.

biggd 01-16-2019 12:02 PM

it The fact that is a 390hp, 4sp, with factory A/C jacks the price up. If in fact it's factory air and not aftermarket, not noted in the original post.

I can say with certainty that it is worth $125,000. Maybe $126,000.

Real paperwork increases the value too...

35 years sounds like long time but car was 17 years old then. Back to all the comments about condition and originality. I've seen two year old 67's beat to death, that would be in 1969. Anyway I am a ready buyer at some price.

Without more info. and pics., it's impossible to come up with a semi-accurate range as to the value. I would take Paul up on his offer to check it out.

DansYellow66 01-16-2019 01:20 PM

It's worth a bunch.

BLUE1972 01-16-2019 01:28 PM

It's worth more than a 78 and less than a 63 split in the same condition and options.... just my opinion - without pictures

LT-1 kid 01-16-2019 01:46 PM

I would say more than my 64 coupe

So true. My second Vette was a '67, 427/390 in '69, and it was beat up when I bought it used, and I drove it hard.

That's why I don't buy into all this "originality" stuff. Yes, maybe a few, but not too many.

Exaclty and unless Earl Schieb painted it a repaint isnt going to hurt things . My god..
It still is what it is and says 427 on it.

now why did you have to go and say that about Earl Scheib? His work was DeLuxe!

How old is that ad Don? I was reminiscing with a fellow painter yesterday about the crazy cost of paint. When I painted my 1960 back in 1985, a gallon of white Dupont acrylic lacquer was $20. I just paid $600 for a gallon of PPG Deltron for my 65.:ack:
