04 Z06 Trunk issue (Does not pop up)
Hi guys,
I have 04Z06 and the trunk does not seem to pop up to the position where it's supposed to be as it only unlocks and stays there. I have to put my finger in the little space to lift it up. What would be the part/part # to replace and solve this issue? Your support very much appreciated! Thanks! |
I hate to be that guy, but Google this one. Pretty much every hatch doesn't pop up. My solution is to pop the button, then close the door (windows closed). There are better solutions (new struts, lube the struts, install an assist spring...).

Yea, my 2000 FRC is the same way. I did see somewhere, maybe on this forum, where a spring was placed on the piston rod just to pop the lid up enough to get a hold of. Cool idea. I may do that at some point too. Just closing the door will pop it up some too like Grant said.

pop it, have windows closed, hop out of driver's seat, shut door, VOILA hatch will pop open!

Start by lubricating the latch mechanism. You could replace the struts but if they still hold the lid in the open position, just get a couple of springs from the hardware store and cut the ends off so they will thread on to rod of the strut (<$5.00). The springs will not rattle due to being compressed when the lid is closed. Another option is to buy a helper spring from a vendor here (~$20.00) that mounts next to the latch on the lid.
Here is a picture of mine with the spring around the strut rod. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...5dae2cd371.jpg |

Hmmmmm....I like both ideas.

This is what I bought.
https://www.corvettemods.com/C5-C6-C...st_p_4978.html cheap fix to a super common problem. Have had mine installed for years. |
On my vert there are 2 rubber like shims at the front (back) of the trunk. These can be adjusted by twisting them counter clockwise. I did this along with new struts really helped. Like has been said, having the top/windows up then close the door will pop the trunk. Also with the trunk open, in the locking mechanism there is a spring. Make sure it contacts the trunk latch.

If this doesn't help then you need new struts...they are cheap and easy to install about $22 for 2 at Rock Auto..... |
Thanks, guys! Great info! I will try WD 40 first and see it fixes, then move on to spring or new struts. In the meantime, I will do the open/close door trick which I didn't know.

Waiting for a batch of new struts...
same issue, convertible tonneau cover does not hold either. Just waiting for a batch of new struts from US...30$ each because no one fly them to Europe... Will add WD40 lubricant type ASAP. |

Had the same issue on my frc. I first tried the lube and it helped for a very short time. Bought new struts, problem solved. Get heavy duty struts though.

I'm surprised people even bother replacing the struts if the lid is still held up in the open position by them. The ONLY time it'd be a problem is when you pop the lid from the outside w/ the key fob...obviously if you're popping it from the inside you'll be getting out of the car & thus closing the door & opening the trunk w/ the vacuum effect.
If it were my DD I may care enough to go swap struts, but for me & most others that isn't the case. I wouldn't bother replacing w/ them still holding firmly in the open position |

Hey now, I have the spring and it works great!
* The "rhythm method," or periodic abstinence, can be very effective birth control. Trouble is, it's very tough to get it right. |
