Texas Speed 427 and F1A Build

Well a little back story I bought my 02 Z06 about 4 years ago with the intent of breaking 200mph in the standing mile. Been working towards this goal for about a decade granted during that decade it was more of a bucket list than reality. When I bought the car it was a track rat with a great cage and a worn engine. I rolled the dice threw some nitrous to it and boom blew up on my second pass managed a 186mph run. Fastest to date so I was happy and sad at the same time. Shipped the car off to a performance shop took more than a year to finish a new motor still running nitrous and at my first event we went 186mph again this seemed to be a pattern. Discovered the new 5th and 6th gear ratio was a bit too steep and 186mph was our topspeed in 6th. Ordered a 2.92 rear gear and at our next even in Mojave CA. we went 200mph in the mile and 213mph in the 1.5 mile. Success my life was complete sell the car life is good. Or it would make me greedy send the car off again same performance shop redo motor for more nitrous have them botch the tune and it explodes at 190mph at my first event before I even complete 1 run.

This brings me to the current build the old shop screwed me over bigtime thats a marathon story and I wont start that sob ordeal. The car is currently at a local shop thats close and I can go see all the progress I ordered a Texas Speed Cleetus McFarland "Leroy 1.0" Resleeved 427 CID Long-Block with a few added goodies. Then a procharger F1A setup for a C6 corvette so I will have a larger intercooler. Still working on fitment now along with a Fore Innovations dual pump setup to run E85. Goals for the car are 210+mph in the mile with around 875+rwhp on a Mustang Dyno.

Here are some pics of the current build along with my 200mph runs:

Neat story. I've dealt with a shady shop before. A shop that freshened up a block in one of my wife's cars didnt tighten an ARP nut on one of the mains. Crankshaft played ping pong with it and threw it out the side of the block. Wasn't even broken in yet. Good luck.

How is the steering setup on that car? Obviously the pump is gone, as well as the pulley. The cooler and reservoir are still there though.

Yeah I feel your pain. They started out as a good shop just really slow. But the last go around they ran over 60 pounds of nitrous for tuning purposes on the dyno and some other stupid crap. Then left me with a huge bill for a car that blew up by no fault of my own. Here are some nice carnage pics.

Good luck with the new setup!

Just be warned, the addiction wont fade any time soon, and the goals can/will always get bumped up :D

Good luck man, looks like its going to be one serious build.

Ha you have no idea your car is one of my big inspirations for the build. I watch your race videos frequently.

Some more progress new C6 radiator is in along with new oil catch can and all the fuel lines buttoned up. Big question at this point is what to do with the bumper. I was going to order a Tiger Shark but honestly would still require cutting and I am not a fan of cutting up something brand new that after paint would be $1,600+. So looking at modifying mine to let enough air go to the intercooler and some ducting to hit the radiator. Getting closer hoping to hit the dyno next week?

Cool new setup. I heard about your blue mile outting, but noone new your setup.

boldtx 01-31-2019 12:36 PM

So 2 years ago when I won BigBlue mile car was running a built LS7 427 with a 200 shot of nitrous 800whp. This last year when it blew up prior to the event I had the motor pulled to be checked over. During that time changed to a gapless piston rings to run a larger 250 shot. Per the usual old mechanic took forever to get the car put back together and last minute tuning. During that time he ran over 50 pounds of nitrous through it for tuning purposes. First time I saw the car was at BigBlue idled like total crap. Every time I had to let off the gas it would die. I was told by my mechanic its okay just needs some fine tuning for the idle. Very first run car stops accelerating at about 185mph before I can let off the gas car totally dies. At that point I coast to the turn around and we load it backup. Car sits for 3 months with nothing done to it so I decide to ship it back home. All while the shop still charges me 5 grand for the engine build and half of labor costs Total crooks it was a long learning experience with them that ended poorly to say the least. Car is now local so I can stop by whenever and the current shop actually is enjoying the build something that was a foreign concept before. I will be at BigBlue come June we shall see how it goes. I have a number in my head I want to hit but we shall see.

Mike94ZLT1 02-06-2019 03:33 PM

You're doing all that on a C5 diff + trans?!

boldtx 02-06-2019 06:02 PM

Its still a C5 diff and trans however they are all RPM built to the hilt models. Anything and everything they could do to strengthen them up. I run a 2.92 rear gear with a revised .90 5th and .79 6th. Thing pulls very well on the top end compared to the old stock ratios. At one point I had thought about switching to a 6060 but thats on the back burner for now. I am financially deep enough in this build already.

boldtx 02-06-2019 06:07 PM

Couple more underbelly pics. Everything is coming together pretty well the addition of C6 parts has been a bit tricky but nothing too terrible
