Magnetic Ride Control
This may be a stupid question, but I've searched every place I could think of and still can't find the answer. Is magnetic ride control standard on the base Z06 with the 2LZ package, not the Z06 with the Z07 package or the 3LZ package?

I'm an older guy and I probably don't do the "in depth" study that many of the members do. I did order and buy a new 2016 Z06 coupe back in January, 2016. Got tired of all the stone chips and sold it and bought a new Challenger Hellcat in 2017. Sold it and bought a new 2018 Jaguar F type R in the Spring of 2018. Just sold it and bought a new left over 2018 Z06 coupe, this time an A8 vs. the M7 I had with the '16 Z06. Back in 2016, the MRC was standard in the Z06. Here of late, I'm seeing stories about people having their MRC tuned (I think it may be a GM service letter), but it sounded like some of these owners had the "optional" MRC in their Z06's, which then made me wonder if the MRC is now an option in the Z06. So, to your question, I do a very limited study on a new car, if I like the way it looks and the reviews are good, I just buy it....if I don't like the car, I get rid of it and buy something else. This time around, I have all of the rock catcher "splash protectors" on this new one, so I'm hoping I have the stone chipping issue somewhat under control. If they become a problem, we'll do something else, I'm sure.
. There was an update to the MRC that was standard on all '19 Z06's. If you had an earlier year you could bring the car to a dealer and have the update applied for approx $325 and an hour of your time. |

The bulletin that covers the update to the MRC gives part numbers for all of the cars that can have the update installed. The salesman may be correct, however, I would check before trusting what any salesman knows about any car on the floor or lot. Hell they don't know correct information for the high volume cars that are sold multiple times per day let alone a low volume car. The price for the update is $350 (which includes the dealer's labor costs).

I had my 2016 Z07 done almost a year ago and the changes were significant as Tadge describes them. |

That is NOT true according to the Chief Engineer. Everyone should go read the Ask Tadge thread about MRC calibrations. Only the 2019s got everything, 2018 got some but not all. I had my 2016 Z07 done almost a year ago and the changes were significant as Tadge describes them. |
^^^Ask Tadge is a sub forum by itself, just like C7, C6, etc...it contains direct Q&A fron the Chief Engineer. The MRC thread is on the first page. |

"Ask Tadge" MRC thread can be found Here For 2018 vehicles (except Base+F55), some of the final improvements being implemented for the MRC upgrades were part of the 2018 production release. Thus the improvements for 2018 vehicles are also very significant but not quite as dramatic as the 2014 to 2017 packages. Whatever that means ... but I guess I should pay the $350 for it to find out if it's good for me. |
Rob Petyo....First off, thank you very much for your link allowing me to easily find the "ask Tadge" article on the MRC update. I'm certain I would have never found it without that help!
Now, it sounds as if you have the same consternation as I do.....how much better will a 2018 Z06 actually function with the MRC update, since some of these updates/modifications have already been programmed into the 2018 models. I think your conclusion to roll the dice and have the car updated is the right move. You'll probably get that done before I will. Once again, I will be delayed in driving my prized possession due to some medical issues I have to have tended to. Please report back your evaluation and assessment of the update in your car and your opinion of it's value. Thanks very much! |
