C7 Throttle Body Mod, Free, Need Feedback for Design

Looking for C7 owners in continental US willing to try a modified throttle body design. Free of charge, yours to keep and also ships free. Only need your honest feedback in return, good or bad. If you have data logging capabilities, I’d be very interested to see what you get for MAF vs. Absolute Throttle % or Angle.

This modification increases air flow rate (power) from 5 deg (idle) to 35 degree absolute throttle position, making the car feel nimbler and more responsive, the effects at WOT are still to be seen and may be considered theoretically negligible. For technical details/questions see thread “ C7 Throttle Body response, Getting to know it

I’ve made 10ea identical samples from new OEM parts (latest OEM TB’s), 1ea of them is in my car (2015 Stingray A8) for a few thousand miles now, working great so far, but I cannot say they work until a significant number of them have been tested on different models and configurations.

A total of 6ea of the 10ea modified throttle body samples are available for testing outside the lab/shop. Ideally, on the configurations shown in table below. Pictures of sample modified parts after the table.

Please reply to this thread with your car specs if you’d like to participate. Include relevant mods and data logging/streaming/diagnostic capabilities if you have any. Two of the configurations have already requested samples by members that have reached to me before this post.

Important Note: This product has not been fully tested, use at your own risk in a safe place and manner. Although I don’t anticipate any issues, I’ll mail and post instructions on a safe and incremental approach to testing to avoid damage to your vehicle, yourself and others.

Installation instructions will be provided as well. Doesn’t require special tools/skills and can be done in an average of 15 minutes. No tune required.

Thank you for your help!

I'd be interested! 2016 Z51 M7 completely stock. No data logging capabilities though.

Count me in. 2015 Z51 M7 AFE CAI and Borla x-pipe

This thread was deleted for about a week, but it is finally back on. I'm the OP, now under username Mike@SolerEngr (used to be Manta-C7). I'm now a supporting vendor as well, although I'm not selling parts yet. In the short time the thread was on, received four requests for test samples in updated table below, but still need a couple members to help, need requests for the blank spaces in request field. Thx.

Sellout 01-30-2019 05:56 PM

I'd certainly be willing to try one out. I don't have the datalogging capability but I do have a PTB done by the master himself(Tony Mamo), so I'd be giving you feedback on the differences between the two.

Sellout, thank you for your interest. I'm sorry to tell you that I have already sent that test sample (LT1 A8) to another member with a 2016 Z51 A8. I apologize if the table wasn't clear; it is only the 2014 A6 and the Z06 A8 that still need testing.

KIKNBAK 01-30-2019 07:55 PM

I received my sample Monday. My car is put away for the winter. I’ll get installed and provide feedback as soon as it warms up. Looks like a lot of thought and work went into this piece. I’m excited to see how it performs.

Sorry I missed this. I have a A8 Z51, daily driver. Unless we get snow it is driven. I have a PDR and a scan gauge if those will suffice for data logging.

Oh4GTO 01-30-2019 08:56 PM

I drive all year round........including snow. 1LT A8 and no need to wait for warmer weather :x

I have a ZR1 tb on the car now that is all forged mod motor with a A/A TI. I have logging also to be able to give a feed back on from a stock t,b, the 95 zr1 t.b. and then yours.. Like your chart would look to do it just to see what it will do man.. Robert

Mike@SolerEngr 01-30-2019 10:26 PM

Thank you all. I really appreciate your interest but those have been already requested by other members, it is the blank spaces what I need to fill for testing.

It'll be a bit before my car has the body work done but I have a 2014 Z51 A6 Corvette with 41k miles. Stock down to the air filter.

Amazing!

I have the modified TB from Mike, at Solar Engineering, on my '16 Stingray, Z51, Auto. Although I have posted my first impressions in another thread, I felt like this was a great opportunity to say it again. I have only had my car out twice since I replaced the TB, but I can say it has truly blown me away. I also have an '03 50th Anniversary Coupe with an after market, ported and polished TB, which was installed in April, '03. Although that car was improved by the TB, it doesn't hold a candle to improvements from Mike's TB, at Solar Engineering. I only mention the '03 to say this isn't my first rodeo with modified TBs. Both Vettes have Long Tube Headers, high flow cats, cold air intake systems, and dyno tuned. Having said that, I always had a noticeable lag, or hesitation on take off, and upwards to about 1/3 of throttle travel. The modified TB from Solar Engineering cleared that up completely, especially noticeable in Touring mode. I have also driven it in "Sport" mode, but with this TB, it is more noticeable in "Touring" mode. I was very pleasantly surprised on my first drive with it. I even had my son drive it, who is a huge car guy, and he was blown away with the response from the first half of throttle travel. I never dreamed a modified TB would make this much noticeable difference on an already modified car. I am going to do some more testing with it tomorrow. Thank you Mike!

Unfortunately, I do not have the knowledge, skill, or equipment to provide any type of technical data to support my experience, but thought it was worth sharing.

It’s too bad you don’t need an M7 LT1, I’m in a location where the car does not go into storage for winter and I have data logging capability (PDR and a ODB2 dongle and scanner).

AKKutz 01-31-2019 10:43 AM

I would like to try your T-body. Currently, I have a Katech ported with Vararam cai. I like the concept in your description. I can send you a stock T-Body for modification or core. Thanks.

Indeed, The HACK. I had to honor a promise I made to another member that showed interest even before I posted the request for testing. I truly wish I could afford to send more samples, but I'm way in the "red" w/ this thing. My apologies for letting so many people down, I did not realize it would get so much interest, until now.

Thank you AKKutz, I prefer to work from new OEM's to minimize other unknown issues/variables. That would also allow me to offer warranty. It is also a good idea to keep your stock body, for many reasons.

No man, don’t apologize. I’m saying it’s too bad I couldn’t help you out. You didn’t let me down, in fact, your detailed thread discussing the throttle body design was instrumental for me to look into this throttle lag issue and the diagrams and CAD drawings are awesome.

In fact I might hook up the ODB2 dongle and go do some baseline testing today.

Mike@SolerEngr 01-31-2019 11:38 AM

Quick update, now it is only the 2014 A6 needing a volunteer. Thx.
