Rotors
I am thinking of buying drilled and slotted rotors for my 2006 base model. I was told that unless it has the z51 package I could not do that. The one's i'm looking at are from Rock Auto, part number Power Stop K1418 (Z23 Evolution). As long as it says standard brakes I'm good, right?
Also what are the torque specs for the calipers and caliper brackets? |
You are good with that part number unless you're just trying to do Fronts.

I think the confusion is that the J55 option (which was for heavy duty brakes) had a larger diameter rotor. Drilled and slotted does not make a difference for fit as long has you buy the same size you currently have.
J55 was part of the Z51 and F55 (magnetic suspension) packages. |
Unless you're buying for looks drilled and slotted will make zero difference.

For track use most prefer blank rotors actually. They're cheaper and last longer.
Plus with stock calipers and stock tires it's still going to make zero improvement but still a good chance of cracking |

Mainly for looks, but I bought it last year, not sure if the pads have ever been changed, but the ones i'm trying to get have some carbon fiber material in them. Either way, just for the looks not an improvement in performance.

Rotors
look at the service parts identification tag inside and on the left of the glove box you should have a jl9 I believe if it is standard. This decal is hard to see but if you have an iPhone take a picture of it and you can blow it up and keep it in your phone because if you buy other parts you will need this and the last 8 of your vin #. They use these codes and vin to properly I’d your car and it’s parts. |
You'll be fine with the powerstop kit, I've had no problems with mine in some speeds over 100 with hard braking. This is mainly a weekend car for me and not a DD or dedicated track car.

Just installed the Powerstop z26 pads and rotors. They look much better, no more rusted up stock ones. I flushed the brake fluid installed these and and it stops great. I did also brake them in according to the instructions. We will see how they hold up, only about 250miles so far. OEM drilled rotors seem to crack less often than aftermarket drilled ones. But really, any drilled hole is a weak point and while be more susceptible to stress cracks.
