My 2008 vette was broken into today???

Somehow a thief got into my 2008 vette this afternoon and clean it out, cell phone, two pairs of expensive sunglasses and even my insurance card and everything from my console. My car is in a carport at the end of the apartment building that i live in about (75 Feet) from my apt.One fob is always in my left pocket and the new one that i got about 2 months ago hangs on a key rack inside my apt....What is very STRANGE is the alarm did not go off because if it did my neighbors would of heard it and i would of heard the horns honking also. I have had auto door locking set from day one,in fact the salesman set the options before i drove it off the lot with zero miles on it......I was reading on the interweb about some new gadget a few months ago that could be used to get into these keyless cars....Anyone have any ideal on how this could of happened??...Thanks Forgot: I also had my Ruger 9mm behind the passenger seat.It has been there for a couple of years and i didnt even think about it until i looked in my desk draw today and not there.

So sorry to hear that this happened.

Are you sure that both your drivers (fobs) options have auto lock enabled ??

J3TVETTE 02-01-2019 12:15 AM

Yes, search one of my old threads. Happened to me, same story.

Thanks....Yes both are enabled....But I have tested that option (Passive Door Locking) before by turning it off then putting my fob at least 50 feet away from the vette then walk up to it and the doors would not open??

Did you ever figure out how it was opened?

Seems that if the bad guys want something bad enough they will get it.

I never use the FOB to lock my car, this is when they are most likely to use scanners to pick up your code. I simply hit the lock button on the door panel on the way out.
Sorry to hear about your break in Cherokee.

Did you hear the car honk as you walked away? They didnt break a window or anything? If the answer to those are no, worry to say but you probably didn't shut theb door.

If someone had the tech to skim your remote and get into the car, they could have just stolen the whole thing for a lot more money, not just a hundred bucks (at a pawn shop) in property.

Either way, sorry to hear about your luck.

Read this article. I keep my key fobs in a tin for this reason.

Just for a little more piece of mind, Harbor freight sells a "driveway sensor" that you could leave inside the car and would alert to the receiver inside your house when it detects motion. They have a range of about 400 feet and only cost about 15 bucks. I used to work in Detroit and they saved me more than once. Just the sight of the transmitter on the dash will probably help.

Can you post a link? I don't see anything on their site that goes inside the vehicle...

One of the options with the autolocking is to flash the lights instead of honking the horn.

Just put "driveway sensor" in their search box on their sight. It's not really for this purpose but it works.

Several times now I've unknowingly unlocked the hatch with the fob in my pocket. I was lucky since one of the times, it sat out all night in a parking lot in Williams AZ. Anyone could have used the emergency release in the trunk to open the driver's door and get in if they knew what they were doing. I've tried to be a lot more careful about 'thigh dialing' and keeping the fob in my hand when I walk away from the car.

I wonder if they could have used the key slot and picked the lock to open the hatch?

Horn will sound alarm. Even if you use the key if no fob detected alarm will sound when door is opened.

Glad I'm not the only one that does this. I store our fobs in a metal coffee can due to the close proximity of our car to our residence and having read a post on this forum that indicated the car can detect the presence of a fob up to 40' away.

The only way I will ever believe this will work on a C6 is if I see it for myself.

You could always put a baby monitor in your car, most are good for 1000ft then you can hear what's going on in your car.

I am skeptical myself, but dropping my key fob in a metal box at night is no big deal and gives me one less thing to worry about.
