C&D doubles down on C8 info
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...dition-europe/ “While there may be a gap between C7 and C8 models in Europe, that's not the case for America. We have it on good authority that there will be some overlap between production of the C7 and C8 Corvettes for the first year or two of the mid-engined C8 car's run, with the high-performance Z06 and ZR1 C7 modelscontinuing on as Chevrolet builds out the C8 lineup beyond the base car, which will launch first.” |
Thanks for posting this. C&D Intel reports on new models over the years have been as hit and miss as any other journalistic outlet. However, I could see a short overlap period involving the higher-end C7 models as they may be able to exercise options to do short-term extensions of contracts with C7 suppliers at previously agreed upon prices.
If they are right, it certainly debunks the theory advanced by some frequent posters here that a refreshed C7 will serve the low-cost market, whereas the ME will only be high-end. |
If this is true then the first C8 ME's will be at the entry level price point, about $65K, when it comes out while the Z06 and ZR1 fill the higher price/performance gap for a couple of years.

In my world the first year C8 will be a base model with a NA LT1 variant. In year 2 or 3 they will introduce a Z06 with a 4.4 TT DOHC engine. Then in year 3 or 4 we will see a ZR1 with a 5.5L TT DOHC engine. The base engine for the full run of the C8 will be the LT1 variant. In years 5 or 6 we will get the C9 that will implement every thing Chevy learned from the C8 production. |

Then again, in year 3 or 4 or 5 we could see all electric Z06's & ZR1's. Do you think its possible the last of the C7's could be the sad end of the gas powered super Corvettes? Hope not.....

If true, then this blows the high entry price for the ME into the weeds.
I wonder where the "I have a contact who said" crowd is? You can almost hear a pin drop. Also puts a big pin in the "No more C7" camp's balloon. :lolg: |

Not in my world view. |
I would take whatever C&D says with a grain of salt. In the past, they've often been as accurate as ZERV02. Not saying they are wrong now, but they want clicks too. It's all speculation until GM speaks....nothing more.
|
“We have it on good authority”. That pretty much says it all about C&D and their reporting. Never seen them get ANYTHING right regards future models. Typical clickbait for them. |
Never trust the media, even if what they say makes you happy.

GM taking advantage of the FE die-hards to get their last licks, but oh ur gonna pay for that. I get it.
If there are so many people clamoring to keep a FE Corvette, why wouldn't they just buy one now, instead of waiting a few years for the same thing? |

Absolutely no way will the C8 see only a 5 year lifecycle. Try doubling that and then add a few more. The whole platform will be a decade in chasing black ink from the development investment. |
Maybe a C8.5. |
