Lowered Base Stingray tire size options

Thinking about running 265/35/18 and 305/30/19 on my base model Stingray 2017 wheels. The car is lowered on the stock bolts, with Bilstein B8 shocks and OE Z06 sway bars. Will I have any rubbing, traction control or ABS issues?

I've seen others report that setup works - just not sure if they were lowered or at stock height. This setup uses slightly shorter tires so in theory you should have more top clearance.

Here are some old threads covering these sizes...

With those shorter tires you should be fine. Specially if you aren't tracking the car.

Thank you both, I was trying unsuccessfully to find threads like those.

I’m thinking that lowering the car on the stock bolts shouldn’t effect tire clearance or the range of suspension travel. The fully extended and fully compressed stops should be same. By lower the car I think it just reduces the compression travel and increases the extension travel.

Search using Google within this site... like below. Works way better then the forum search function.

Thank you both! That’s helpful info.
Those tires are shorter but wider. I’m hoping that lowering on stock bolts doesn’t affect the fully compressed suspension travel so those size should clear.

You might rub when fully compressed. Do you have any aero ? I'd more worried about scraping the body from.neing too low. Those tires will lower your ride height another 1/2 inch.

The Successful Plumber 02-03-2019 08:21 PM

No aero to worry about. I think it will only lower the ride height half the tire diameter difference. I think the difference is a 1/2 inch, so it should only lower ride height a 1/4 inch. Those Bilstein B8 are made for lowered cars and have much firmer compression dampening. It doesn’t bottoms out anymore like it use to.

Anyone try the m/t 285/35/19?

That is the stock tire size. The OP is looking at wider tires
265 / 35 - 18 = 0.8” wider & 0.4” shorter
305 / 30 - 19 = 0.8” wider & 0.7” shorter
Values above are based on math only. Each tire brand and model is slightly different so you need to double check the specs.

From what I've gathered the recommended ratio to keep all the systems (ABS, TC, etc) happy is to stay within 4% or a ratio between 1.02 to 1.06
The setup above pretty much mirrors the stock ratio and comes in at 1.04

My local America’s Tire said the same thing. They said, they should fit and not cause any issues. They also said that if they don’t work for any reason they will replace them with something that will. Now I have to justify replacing my existing OEM tires with 5800 miles with new tires ($1320) with my wife. My bday is coming up at the end of April, so I’m starting to drop hints that I want tires. This is going to be a tough sell, tires are just tires to her, a car is just something to get you from point A to point B. I think she actually hates the corvette. Her thing is dogs, which I fully support her spending on so I can spend money on the corvette.

Installed Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 265/35/18 and 305/30/19 on the 2017 OE Base Model wheels with the car lowered on the stock bolts. There isn’t any clearance or rubbing issues.

Thinking of going with the same size tires as you but I'm going with air suspension.

I went with these tire sizes because I want to use my OE base wheels. The 265/35/18 where the widest size that would fit on the front 18x8.5 inch OE wheels. You’re supposed to be able to fit a 315/30/19 on the OE rears but I didn’t want to go two sizes wider in the front and three in the back. I wanted to keep it even. I’m totally happy with the way my car is setup now. Totally stable, no matter how hard I push it! Hugh improvement from what it was stock, no comparison, completely different car now.

No way you can properly fit a 315 on a 10 inch wide wheel. It's going to balloon. Specially michellins. My 295s already bulge out. I have 305/35 on a 10.5 inch wheel and it bulges out a bit too.

It's a losing battle. For example. A 295 on a 10.5 inch wheel is only 6 mm narrower than a 305. A 315 will probably be barely any wider and pinched.

I bet a 255/295 combo would have been a better buy.

This is from the Ameriica’s Tire website... The second attachment is the specs for the Michelin Cup 2s which are the only Michelin tires available in that size...

Yes sure you can mount them but they will provide virtually zero performance improvement.

was looking for a similar reason. I have a '16 Z51 I track, and I would like to close the gap on the huge tires the Z06's have lol. What is the biggest I can put on the factory rims? What the are biggest rims I can put on and keep in the wheel well.

I currently have stock 245/35/19 and 285/30/20.

Any help or links are appreciated

255/295. Bigger tires on their own don't increase performance. Wider, lighter wheels do. I have base model wheels for sale with track tires. You can shed them when they wear fully then mount new ones. Perfect for z51.

mmontetx 03-26-2019 09:29 AM

sent pm on your offer.
I do see on the tire specs that the ratings for the tires do seem to vary slighty due to tire size... ex. 245 93Y and 285 99Y.
If 255/295 are the largest, do you know if I can use bigger rims? Thanks
