anyone replaced the fuel tank purge/vent line with rubber?
 

My vent line on the 86 is rotted out and a PO must have pinched it shut.. I can see it up beside the rear driver wheel between the abs pump tub and the frame.

I am doing some bumper work right now and I thought I'd just replace the entire line all the way to the cannister. The gas tank pressures up right now and fumes are escaping out this broken vent line.

i could just slip a piece of rubber over this broken line and clamp it...but i'm 100% certain that the line will have corrosion and be plugged elsewhere in the line so I am replacing the whole thing.


There is some really nice nylon or stainless braided rubber fuel line made for todays fuel available and it would be extremely easy to run this from the vent fitting along the same pathing. Anybody?

I know in the past people have been burned by rubber braided lines but my understanding is that modern line is not comprised in the same way.

And to be honest, I am looking at doing the sending and return fuel lines the same way, from the tank, to the filter. They were replaced in the past by copper lines and look real shady.

I'm interested in how this works out.

whats funny is that 3/4 c4's ive worked on have had this vent line severed. all in the same spot.

2 crushed from impropper jacking

1 from rusting out.

on the current example, rusted out, i *know* that ill have a bunch of other stuff to repair along the way. likely the charcoal cannister and the vent solenoid to the vacuum line. and the vacuum line.

Have you explored using nylon lines much like the newer cars use to handle fuel vapors. Might be a little more cost effective. I think kits are available from Jegs or Summit.

I used plastic line I believe pvc or something, ran from we're it connects to by the fuel tank all the way to the engine bay.

where did you tie in and what were your connections made from?

I removed the fuel filler door and removed the old line, I ordered the same size line and snaked it through, used tie wraps were I ran it underneath up to the engine compartment. was a pain if I remember right to remove old line and snake the new line but not to bad. I am sick right now with sinus infection if I feel better tomorrow I will go out to the garage and take some pics.
