C6 Race Wing Install Question
Hello,
Question for those that have large frame mounted wings installed on your C6. If your car had a factory or aftermarket full width lip spoiler, did you remove it or cut slits into it to install the uprights for the wing. Please post pictures of installs if you have them. (please no deck mounted wings) Picture of wing for attention: this one has the stock Z06 lip spoiler... asking about full width lip spoilers Thank you, Matt https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...ad372e355b.jpg |
We ran them in the World Challenge days, but the wing will do a lot more and created less drag. I’m stocking 9Lives wings soon which come with a nice frame mount
it is almost always easier to generate rear downforce than front, so unless you have a really advanced splitter, you may not need as much wing assist you think....or you’ll end up with a big parachute |
Remove full width spoiler. Leave factory narrow spoiler. I removed mine and filled the space and didn't need to do that. Factory GTLM cars left the factory center lip in place.
If you're going to plan on a real chassis mounted wing that's effective then like David said plan on a real splitter as well or else you get something that likes to go straight more than anything in fast sweepers if you're driving anywhere close to the limit. |
Thank you for the replies. I do have a chassis mount wing on order and will be adding a splitter as well. I was looking for pictures of the wings installed and how the rear fascia was cut. Some rules allow the car (or don’t mention it) to keep the rear lip spoiler as well. Not sure if I want I keep mine and slot it like the rear fascia for the uprights or remove it. Thanks for the input.
I am still looking for pictures of the rear fascia with slots cut in it for the frame mount uprights https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...2ac107ca5.jpeg |

Thank you. Is there picture of the fascia on? I am looking for how that looks with the fascia cut and hopefully a stock rear lip spoiler on.

Here is my car. Decklid was cut and stock rear spoiler on. Frame mounted. Install was straight forward. I have other pics if you want.

Those are what I have been looking for thank you!
Mordeth, is that a bead of silicone or something right at the area the wing exits the top of the bumper cover to seal it up. Is that needed? |
Yes, just some black Permatex RTV. When you cut the slats in the deck lid you need to make them a tiny bit wider than the upright so it can fit properly. That leaves a small gap. I used the silicone to fill that gap. It probably isn't 100% needed I suppose, but it seals the small gap so water can't get in and it makes a MUCH cleaner look. After the silicone hardens I trimmed it carefully with a razor so it is now flat. Happy to post up more pictures if it is helpful.

They are useful in gathering information on what the car is doing at speed (in addition to telemetry, lap times and feel etc). Also when I am adjusting wing angle. Here is an example at speed at the Glen when I added some angle. You can see the compression on the rear (compare to pics above) from the wing doing serious work. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...4e450d4f87.jpg |

I retained my extended ZR-1 spoiler just because the rear fascia had multiple holes in it and I wasn't ready to replace the fascia at the time. I found that adding braces to support the uprights from horizontal movement was a must for the LG wing if you oversize the slots in the fascia. |

I still have the full spoiler on mine. This wing has really wide spacing thoughhttps://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...c37974fd6a.jpg

We did this with the APR wing. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...3864eb4c94.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...c6c2d466f3.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...6c1f900005.jpg |
mine is mounted to the tub (not the decklid). If it comes off, the entire tub is coming with it. My decklid is gutted/lift off with lexan, but the tub is still built like a tank
Those mounts like the are over 1/2" thick.....Do you strap it to your trailer using the wing? |

I used the small "duck bill" spoiler. I had 2 different full length spoilers on the car. This left multiple holes in the bumper. I made 2 thin aluminum plates to cover the holes and attached with push in plastic fasteners. I used a APR wing that is used on a Viper convertible. This gave me the proper spacing for the uprights so they fell between the tail lights. The wing is back far enough so I can open the rear hatch. |

I knew I didn't want any deflection nor the possibility of it coming off. It works. Doesn't move. Temporary though as I will move to something like what Mordeth has now. I filled the tail light spoiler hole and smoothed it over. Didn't need to. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...3a9f3f69f4.jpg |
holy crap, how thick are those uprights?

Did you extend the mounting posts down to the cage or something? Looks chassis mounted.
