DRM shock install issue

Well, I am trying to follow the step by step guide on the forum and ran into an issue with the top bolt on the front shock. While using the Lisle tool I happened to shear off a portion of the screw. I’ve tried everything in my arsenal and am just stumped. The bolt just keeps spinning. Any suggestions? Here’s a pic of what I’m dealing with. |
cut a slot in it, put a big screw driver in said slot, hold the shaft steady, turn the nut off. Or hold the nut steady and turn the shaft.
Also penetrating oil on the shock shaft bolt. |
The Dremel is your friend. Is that a rear shock?

Looking at the rust on the threads, hopefully that's the old shock and not the new DRM that was being installed.
If it is the old shock and all else fails to remove it, cut the dust boot (they are cheap to replace), and hold the shaft with channel locks or a vice grip. The shock is not really reuseable anyway since the tab broke off. |
Air chisel. Works every time. Second go to is an acetylene torch.

Split the nut with an air chisel

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I went the dremel route and was able to cut the bolt under the nut to finally release the shock. Other side was cake. Got late so I’ll finish the rear shocks tomorrow.

If it was the old shock I would have just cut the shaft from underneath too.
