Tinting rear window of 1996 C 4
 

Hi, I am thinking of tinting the rear window of my C 4 (1996) and was wondering the pros and cons. Live in Alabama and heat is an issue. Thank you for responding. Just wondering...

Its one of the toughest pieces of glass to tint in the business. Biggest con is ginding someone who can do it right, and the cost to do it.

I was lucky enough to find someone who did it with one piece. but it was very expensive because I told him he bought the back window if he ruined the defroster coils

My 2 cents is visibility at night. So be careful

I was told by a pro tint shop our curved windows are dreaded by most installers. They wanted to charge $350 just for the rear, with ceramic heat deflecting dark tint; in CA.

Mine is tinted (I work in Alabama), but I bought it that way. It looks great with no issues and appears to be a single piece in back.
I legally tint all of my vehicles for the UV protection. There's a good shop in Huntsville, but seeing as you are in Montgomery that doesn't help.
Whomever does it make sure that you look at references and only use quality tint.
I've got an 84 car that was tinted 15 years ago as well as a 2003 truck that was tinted 9 years ago that still look perfect.
None of that bubbling or purpling you see from cheap tint.

There is no reason not to get that window tinted just find an experience installer that has tinted those before I have owned and operated a tint shop for 33 years I have done them in one piece and in 3 It will cost a lot more fore 1 piece It a good tinter can seem it on the first and last defroster line and it would look like one piece as this is the way we did it from 85 to 94 before the films and techniques were available to one piece.Good Luck

pdont go cheap. When I bought my 86, the po had tried to do it himself and also used cheap tint. It had more bubbles in it than bubble wrap. Also was peeling in places. Be smart, some things are worth spending the money on. best of luck.

The rear was tinted on my 96 by the po, I really liked it. I never measured the percentage but was never an issue at night, gives the car a different look.

My back window is tinted at 20%, which isn't legal and It is not easy to see out of at night. Due to the slant of the window, it makes things a little blurry and difficult to judge distance. I have gotten used to it though. I like it for the look and the protection factor, but I wouldn't have gone darker than 32% if I was having it done. I would also consider the windshield strip. I typically don't like it, but with the slant of the windshield, you get a lot of sun and a lot of heat in the front.
