Question about parts listed as "Diecast"
 

I am looking for some trim pieces for my '68 and some vendors label the part as diecast, but there's no mention of diecast in the majority of the other vendor's descriptions. So is diecast good, okay, or stay away ? Thank you

It mostly depends on what the original piece was. Some reproductions are made in plastic when the original was diecast, etc.

I think some call it pot metal as well. :thumbs:

The term "die cast" means that there is a permanent mold which resides in a machine which injects that die with molten metal. It will then be cooled in the mold with cold water and out comes a finished part. That molten metal could be "pot" metal, aluminum, copper, whatever. But, that's how die-casting is done. You can cast parts with 'sand casting', 'lost wax', or with other casting methods. Die casting is fast, precise, and relatively inexpensive when it is a high-volume part.

The rear deck vent grilles are die cast .

I read about the die cast process. I was curious about the quality of parts manufactured that way, and why "die cast" would be specifically stated in some vendors' descriptions, and not by all vendors carrying the same part(s). Also, whether it's a disclaimer for its (lack of) quality or a boasting about the part being higher quality. Thank you.
