Rear Diffuser

Is there any companies out there that make an actual functional C6Z race rear diffuser? I have been looking online and done a little searching here but have not seen anything aside from the show car focused pieces.

Thanks!

ive never come across one.

AJ Hartman aero diffusor. I am installing on my C5. Aerodynamicist designed. Not bolt-on, requires some fab - but this is no show piece.

I made one.

I'm guessing you've done some measurements? Will you need canards or does the single piece cover the needed areas?

This is the route I was thinking I would have to go. How far have you gotten on install so far?

That AJ Hartman one is MASSIVE and I believed to be only inches off the ground to be very functional. I saw one of those on Paul Faessler's 60's road race car at PRI this year. It sits very low and extends pretty far out from the rear bumper.

If you are going 100% functional track car then it may be an option. But I would be hesitant on a dual purpose street/track car.

Homemade. Constructed of 5052 .080 aluminum. Attaches to the factory diffuser. I run coil over shocks. A belly pan covers the rear up to where the exhaust pipes go together. Removed backup lights and replaces with SS screen to help trapped air escape. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...469dd43dd5.jpg

That is very similar to what I had in mind for building my own if I went that route. Did you do any CAD for design or did you just manually cut everything?

rbzo6 02-12-2019 07:35 PM

No CAD.

Looks really well done for no computer aid. Have you noticed any difference on track with it? Do you run front aero as well?

You don't always need CAD. Cardboard or poster board, pencil and scissors can make plenty of cool stuff.

STANG KILLA SS 02-14-2019 03:09 PM

agreed. as some one who uses CAD everyday at work. this is not needed for a sheetmetal diffuser.
tape measure, sharpie, straight edge, cardboard (if your a measure twice cut once type :D ) and maybe and angle finder if you want to get technical.

Josh Dockstader 02-14-2019 04:11 PM

I also use CAD every day. If there was CAD models or .dxf files of the diffuser parts then it could be replicated very easily. That is why I asked. If I build one, I will do everything in SolidWorks and share the files with anyone who wants them.

smitty2919 02-15-2019 09:11 AM

It is surprising no one makes a "bolt on" rear diffuser for the C5/C6 with how many people race them.

Danny Popp can get you hooked up with a CAM style rear spoiler and or a road race wing. I'm not sure who fabricates this stuff for him as a "kit".

If I was to make one it would be easier to go the carboard/pencil/scissor route, get everything worked out THEN remove everything and replicate it in CAD. You can then add even bolt spacing etc etc. Would be quite easy. Export drawings or models in whatever file format a laser cutting machine needs to read it. Done.

Exactly smitty2919. I will see how much time I have this spring to work on one. Maybe rbz06 can post some under body photos to get an idea of how he made his. That would be a huge help for a starting point.
