Driving in the snow
 

I cannot find the other recent thread about driving your C5 in the snow (the search engine on here sucks), and even with Google can't find it, but here's one for you guys worrying about scratching or banging up your expensive C5 vette. This guy is enjoying his car in the winter and I guess can afford whatever happens to it.

Two words come to mind....Who Cares!!!

I drove my 2003 Z06 year round in Germany, including a lot of snow in Berlin.

Its pretty hard for me to get any traction with 345/35/19 rear tires with a 8 X 13 inch footprint ( contact patch.) in the snow.

It’s his car, so what he does with it is his business. As for me, I prefer not to drive my C7 when the road conditions are bad.

There used to be a guy on here who lived up in New England I think who daily'd his C5. IIRC, he had the 17" front wheels at all four corners. He seemed to get around just fine.

I'd have no problem doing it with a beater C5.

My son lives in New England, they dont have snow days and no one loses any work. They get 6 to eight feet of snow a year, but they handle it extremely well.

I don't get it, why people have an aversion to driving their cars in rain or snow or whatever. Cars are designed to be driven in all sorts of conditions.
Read the book "All Corvette's Are Red". It's a history of the origin and development of the C5 and the testing it went through in Canadian winter temps and Ca. desert temps.
With the correct tires you can pretty much drive in anything so much as the anything is not coming up onto and across the hood of your car.
I've got 2 C5's. Z06 primarily for the track. That car sees no snow, only because it has the wrong tires on it and is buried in the garage, I have to move 2 or 3 other cars to get at it.
My other C5 is a convertible and has pretty good all season rubber.
It's parked outside and seen considerable time in the snow, both parked and moving.
Normally I wash all my cars myself, but if I've driven in the snow or after a snow fall I'll bring it to a car wash with an undercarriage wash to hopefully remove most of the salt.
I've also got a Boxster and a Cayman, both parked outside and they to have the correct tires for light snow driving and they do fine. Lastly I've got 2 Miata's (a Spec Miata racer) never sees snow or barely any rain either. The other Miata this time of year normally has 4 snow tires on it and as long as the snow is not over it's hood I can get through anything.

Snow doesn't hurt anything, but salt on the other hand....

Wide tires and snow are a bad mix. Currently I have Mich A/S's on and they have got me home in winter a couple of times when snow has come in while I was out of town. But it ain't fun. Hills are more of a challenge than corners.
