How many of you followed the 500 mile break-in procedure?

Did you strictly follow The 500 mi. break in period or did you cheat ???

Varied rpms in any cruise situation, broke 4K rpm once I think, changed at 492mi. Now i take it through the RPM range a lot more.

GARYFINN 02-20-2019 01:13 PM

I have a manual its killing me not to run through the gears I still have 250 mi. to go :toetap:

Followed it as outlined in the owners manual. Was very difficult to do as I wanted to experience the 650 hp and torgue but I waited.

TNSQUIRE 02-20-2019 02:01 PM

Followed to the letter

With the exception of the 500 mile oil change, followed guidelines set forth by the factory. Had the oil changed as soon as I got home (1100 mile trip from dealer). 10K miles on the car now and no issues (2017 Z06 coupe).

dbaker 02-20-2019 02:15 PM

Went 7 miles over.
Had dealer do it so it would be on record as being done.

Scrupulous behavior through 500 miles. Made an appointment at my dealer for the first of three freebie changes and drove in at 501 miles on the clock.

Like some, I took a picture of the instrument panel at 499 and 500 miles, to document the change in color bands around the tachometer. Cool stuff.

Yes, followed the 500 mile oil change. Why would you not, especially considering not doing so could put your warranty in jeopardy.

wrecker3 02-20-2019 02:28 PM

Followed it as outlined in the owners manual and done at 500 miles !!!

Followed the guidelines regarding varying speed and RPM limits through the first 500 but didn’t change my oil until about 1800. Over the years I have gone both ways on break in, drive it like you stole it and following the letter of the law and I have never had an issue even with engines my buddies and I built and tossed into a car ourselves. My 2017 Z51 is a much bigger investment than many of those earlier cars so I chose to more closely follow the manufacturers guidelines.

mschuyler 02-20-2019 04:02 PM

Got 500 miles on it the first day I owned it.

65fastback 02-20-2019 04:06 PM

I spun my m7 up to about 4 k a couple times during the first 500. Extremely hard to behave !
Spent last Saturday driving aimlessly for nearly 200 miles before getting the first change at 488 miles.

Then you're a slacker!!! :D

bankers1 02-20-2019 04:24 PM

I'll make up for it on the next 2-3 changes...I waited till 850-950 +/-
but did NOT bust loose on the pedal. Old man driving. My kids had more fun
with the paddle shifters than I did.
