Is attack blue really better than the other drop in air filters?

The attack blue has a great reputation but it's almost twice as much as the others when you buy the brace. Is it really better than K&N, AFE and Airaid? Do you really need the brace? I'm in CA and would like to avoid an intake that would create problems with SMOG. Thanks in advance.

Excellent question looking forward to replies as well. I currently have the K&N filter only on my tuned/ported stock throttle body ZR1. No complaints, responds and runs well. I may move up to the Holley INTECH cold air kit for the c6 ZR1. Its half the price of the K&N carbon fiber and looks different also.

If you are talking about the plastic insert, I believe I re-used the one on the stock air filter.
I have no complaints about the Attack.

I just installed an Attack Blue on my 06Z. Factory filter housing, exhaust manifolds, ported intake, throttle body and heads. Mild cam with tune 540 rwhp. I wanted a Cali car that would look legal an pass an inspection. I think the filter is doing a great job.

I can't comment on the others, but I do have an Attack Blue in my 2013 ZR1 and 2007 race car (with an LS7).

In the ZR1 there was a very noticeable difference in that it pulls harder and will break the tires free, something it hadn't been doing prior.

In the race car I knocked a full tenth off my ET compared to the stock LS9 filter I had been running. I also made a few passes without any filter whatsoever and found it to be the same as with the Attack Blue installed, that's how good it flows.

I got my 2010 ZR1 3ZR with 9700 miles in 2015. Now have 47K miles on the beast and have enjoyed every mile. I don’t track or race it but I like the full power and improved throttle response. I tried them all. OEM, K&N and Attack Blue. My concern is all of those have face plates or, in the case of K&N, two bars to hold the filters in the OEM air box. This presents turbulence at the filter face, thus turbulence in the plenum, at the MAF sensor and finally at the TB. I went with the K&N Carbon Fiber ($1000) CAI that presents little airflow turbulence, has actual dyno numbers and is a quality product that has an excellent fit.

A Throttle Controller REALLY improves throttle response.

Thanks for all the responses. It seems like attack blue is the only one with dyno results. The other cheaper ones don't. I bought this car to leave it stock but that doesn't seem like it's going to happen. We will see how it unfolds.

Ive been told by my tuner the stock ZR1 Intake is all thats needed (no HP gains) unless you go with a bigger snout then you must change...

Apocolipse 03-04-2019 11:51 PM

Aftermarket air filters allow more noise...thats it. Not power.

If you want a nice little power upgrade that leaves the car looking stock... Lingenfelter pullies upgrade kit and a dyno tune.

Incorrect. You will see huge gains in a LS9 by just swapping out the filter and installing an Attack Blue and NO tuning. This forum alone has tons of printed dyno sheets from members with gains anywhere from 17-22.

We just found this on you tube. Gained 31 hp Approx 20 pds of torque /boost (Skip ahead. It really starts at 5:04)
Don't know him. No affiliation with us.....check it out

* On a side note, in the video he talks about not having the GM brace come with the filter. It does, he just ordered the wrong kit.

I spent a few hours of research on air filters when I bought my car... There is an unbiased dyno test on z06,zr1 and the blue filter with the ZR1 factory filter performing the best results so I left it alone.. Just my .02 cents after reading dozens of posts and threads on various websites

Apocolipse 03-08-2019 06:16 PM

Sigh...

Tricking the maf into running leaner does not equal "more flow cai omfg moar powers"

it is not "tricking" anything, that just shows more unrestricted air flow.
When I purchased my car and removed the air filter to look at it the car had 13k on it. The filter looked like it had been the original and in its condition I would replace it on any car. Mind you this is basically a years worth of mileage in a normal car. Plus I really did not care for the style of filter as once the entry gets dirty it will block the efficiency of the rest of the filter media.
I had a Green Filter on my other c6 with a Vararam and thought it was just OK.
I bought the Blue filter because of the increased size of the filter area, plus I can clean it once a month if I want.
I am happy with it and the fit and quality are what I look for in a product

If you are talking about the factory blue ZR1 air filter I would be happy to run one if you could still get an original ZR1 air filter.
Any thoughts as to lightly spraying the Attack with filter oil?

leadfart 03-10-2019 11:26 AM

I run one on my ZR1, I have no illusions about air filters, but I wanted a stock type upgrade, and it fits the bill. When I start tuning and doing a little modding on it, I think it will help. I think it's better than OEM, but that's just me.

RedZ4me 03-10-2019 11:59 AM

12.6 to 13.8 is not richer - it leaned it out to make power

mirage2991 03-18-2019 09:08 PM

Everyone should read this thread, post 14:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ir-filters.htm

and then come up to their own conclusions as to what may have happened (or may not, who's to say) during those "power gains" videos

I had no idea they no longer made that LS9 core filter, I was about to order a new stock one but now I clearly need to re-think..

anothertoy 03-19-2019 01:07 AM

So what do you guys think about the other brands of high flow air filters?
