ceramic coating on new paint

I am doing a frame-off on my 72 and will be repainting it hopefully later this year, depending on how much time I get to work on it. I would like to put a ceramic coating on the paint after it is done. How long should I let the paint cure before applying the ceramic coating?

Whatever the manufacturer of the product you plan on using states or wants.

Before you do this....I would ask the manufacturer what it takes to get this stuff off in the event it needs to be painted due to an accident or whatever.

Keep in mind....the car sitting in a garage when it is 40 degrees out is really not curing at all. And not allowing the car to get hot and be out in the sun is not doing much for the curing process also. I take some of the jobs I paint and if I need it to cure out much faster than me using my infra red heaters. I take it to a body shop down the street and will pay them to run it in a few force cure cycles.

My fear about using some of this new 'stuff' is that it maybe all well and good on a factory paint job that has been seriously baked and is fully cured out. But using it on a paint job that will take sometime to fully cure out. I just do not buy into it and I much rather leave it alone so I can have the owner apply the polish to the paint to keep it fortified and looking great.

You definitely need to wait for the paint to properly gas off. In general, I would advise on waiting 60 days after re-painting before doing the ceramic coating procedure.

I was told before that the paint needs to cure for a minimum of 1 month.

my advice is "don't " . your call but i would wait at least 90 to 120 days .
