Looks like we might still have another year of the C7?

Don't shoot the messenger

I got this off the 6G Camaro forums - they are keeping a sharp eye on 2020 production due to the "improved" Camaro SS face over the 2019.

Now I understand it still says "TBD" however the fact it still says Stingray / Z06 on it has me wondering......The upcoming CT4 and CT5 are listed as "Lux2" and "Lux3" sedans.

Here's the chart for all your truck needs as well....

Again, nobody knows. We wait and wait and until GM announces something it's all pure speculation.

We might have a 1983 situation here. Who knows? Not us.

What I do know is the recent renders are pretty dang close to the real thing with a few key curvatures still being hidden in plain sight with tape/camo/fake paneling, primarily the hood and the doors. The grill inserts I haven't seen so I don't know what that would look like.

Jeff V. 02-26-2019 05:53 PM

It's interesting that the only other "TBD" vehicle on that list is the HD pickups, which are also completely new for 2020.

Makes me wonder if they share anything with the C8. Like, say, a new electrical architecture.

Plexoer 02-26-2019 06:11 PM

I would say the fact that it says TBD and does not have a date is a red flag.

i think that the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 sedans being abstractly code named, and the use of Stingray and Z06 names means nothing about timing. Both of the Caddy sedans and the C8 are the brand new 2020 GM car models so it’s understandable that each is a still TBD status. Each is very important to GM and they will be announced and produced as soon as possible.

TBD= To Be Dropped :thumbs:

GOC 02-26-2019 09:15 PM

I know it says TBD, but the fact that it says Stingray and Z06 likely means it's referring to the C7 rather than the C8. Unless GM is coming out with both a Stingray and a Z06 equivalent at the same time for the C8.

Those "August 2013" spy shots were from October 2012. I have no idea why Autoblog reposted them in late 2013.

Yes, thank you - that's exactly what I was getting at

Also add to the fact that the ct4 and the ct5 are still going by odd code names..... I really really really really want to C8 to be a 2020, I hope I'm wrong

hemistar1 02-27-2019 12:29 AM

Just my 2 cents but wasn’t there a time when a new body style / engine GM truck was produced but you could still buy the previous generation model as a “classic” for an extra year ?

I wonder if GM does the same with the C7 ...make them for 1 to 2 more years while introducing the mid engine C8.

A tried and tested C7 versus new tech and design.

The TBD might determine this.

Just added up the Kerbeck Inventory. Why? they are the largest Vette Dealer for a reason! Have ordered several Vettes from them- great folks.

They also know better than any of us the situation of when the C8 "might" be available. Didn't say they know but their guess has impact on their ability to sell the ~1200/year they have been selling. Note that number may change with the current confused situation. Other large volume forum dealers are in a similar position. There guess on what to order will impact their profits! Much bigger deal for them than those who are waiting to buy a C7 for a few thousand more discount! :yesnod:

Currently Kerbeck has ~168 in stock, lower than they have had which is often ~250. Discounts vary from 15% to all 38 Z06's being only 12%. For those who are used to haggling- what you see it what you'll get!

To sell ~1200/year means you are typically ordering/selling ~25 cars/week. Note some are ordered for what a customer wants.

REASON FOR MENTIONING:
When the Bowing Green plant was scheduled to close in the summer of 2017 for a wide estimate of time, I thought, if it's delayed prices could increase for cars in stock once dealers can no longer order cars! In February 2017 discounts were there usual winter highs. Kerbeck had well over 200 cars in stock. I decided to sell my 2014 Z51 a bit earlier than planned and order a Grand Sport, "built to my specs." When Dealers could not longer order 2017's Kerbeck discounts did in fact decrease. Why not, if you only have a fixed inventory and orders are coming in faster than you anticipate being able to get new inventory- WHY NOT REDUCE DISCOUNTS??

BOTTOM LINE
169 cars in stock is low for Kerbeck. If you want a Z06 that 12% discount for those 38 in stock (OR ordered for a customer) may not get larger- many get less! If you want a Z51 (for whatever reason, like you drive thorough cold weather and use winter or all season tires) they have none in stock. Been that way for a while since the Grand Sport price is not much more than a Z51 with MRC option. There are also few Verts in stock- 9 base, 8 GS and 0 Z06s.

So those hopping for big extra discounts when the C8 is announced may be surprised! Perhaps discounts could be less as they were at Kerbeck before production restarted! Oh sure, some smaller dealers may have some "dogs" left and will discount, i.e. odd colors, 3LT automatics with every option. Especially if you want a standard shift, since it will be the last Vette with a third pedal, might not want to wait as that last order date for a new C7 gets closer or announced - if your plan is buying a C7!

Just Sayn' Something to consider!

And in Oct 2013 I got mine. What an exciting time that was!

Still 9,000 C7's in the pipeline? That's a lot of cars for the dealerships to absorb. Going to need some incentives to move them out.

They only do that for fleet vehicles. Trucks, Impalas, Malibus.

That was my initial thought BUT if GM says the last C7 can be ordered on March 1st, that is ~18 weeks of orders at 25,000/year. IF the C8 starts at $70,000 and some folks can't/won't pay more than $55,000 the existing inventory could go quickly! Will be some time for dealers to get C8 inventory as it was about 4 months after the C7 pricing was announced! There will be no discounting the C8 for a while.

Recall Kerbeck in Cary, where I got my September 2013 built C7 ordered many months before, they could not order cars for their stock as GM was filling end customer car orders first! Recall when I picked mine up it was the only C7 in their showroom as I could not get there for 2 days after it arrived. When the wife and I walked in there was a salesman discussing my car with a potential customer. He had no idea we were not "just looking." Recall when the fellow asked to sit in the car the salesman said, "We're not allowed, it's a customer car!" Went and found our salesman!

All depends.

Sorry, no. It only means GM is not going to spill the beans and acknowledge the C8 by listing it in a report. Actually, this report is very informative, but not in a good way for those who want to see the FE maintained. Face it. If the C7 was continuing for 2020, the report would have listed a date under the 2020 column just like all the other cars/trucks that are being maintained. TBD means, at best, GM hasn't decided and at worst, buy your C7 now because it's gone in a few months.
I'm a big maintain the FE fan, but this report doesn't say anything positive about maintaining the FE.
Actually, the most positive report is the post by Jerry U (thanks Jerry!). That's a very astute observation about Kerbeck's inventory.

RapidC84B 02-27-2019 10:11 AM

It says "Stingray/Z06" because they don't want to use the C8 code name or any real name so as to not acknowledge the car. I don't see this as proof of a FE car. I think the FE wraps up here next month and then we wait. As one poster said, we may have a 1983 situation if it takes GM too long to get the car right.
