1992 front main seal

Hey everyone.
I am wondering if anyone has replaced their LT1 front main seal... In The Car!!
It looks impossible without removing a lot of things.
Anyone have suggestions on how to get it done?

It's a pain but possible. Take shroud and related parts out of the way. Take motor mounts loose. Jack engine up high enough to take balancer and hub off. Seal will be accessible. Installation without the proper tool requires patients.

If and when you tackle this DIY job, consider changing the Opti out to the vacuum vented upgrade, plus new water pump, belt, hoses, plug wires and HB. I promise you don’t want to take all that stuff off twice when one of them fail after you get it all together. My son and I spent most of a weekend doing it. Can also consider changing to the electric water pump.

Guys have quoted 4 hrs in and out but that is not realistic unless you have done this many times. A front main leak also creates quite a mess under there. That cleanup will take some time as well and the area is really only accessible when you have it all apart. There’s a couple of YouTube videos out there to see what you are up against. Good luck and have patience!

As others have mentioned it's a pain...depending on the size of leak you may want to leave it alone.

In my experience a new seal does not always fix it. Some times it does, but a bit of a gamble for all the work....

The seal itself will definitely not solve your leak. You will also need a sleeve or new hub. Ask me how I know? I did the job twice.

As 9T3 said, you may want to leave it along depending on the leak. All LT1's leak a little. Some a lot!

Thank you. I've been considering leaving it but it bugs me!
