What did I break in the trans?? car no move

So I was about to party, then the party stopped with audible snap :smash:
no leaks, both rear wheels turn when I jack it up, what shaft should I expect to be broken when I disassembly?

chris308 03-01-2019 08:11 AM

output shaft maybe

ascastil 03-01-2019 09:13 AM

That's weird, you weren't even barely moving. I was e expecting a hard launch or something.

Turpid porpoise 03-01-2019 11:01 AM

You still on the T56 and C5 diff?

mykream 03-01-2019 12:22 PM

mainshaft

JoeyG 03-01-2019 12:47 PM

If you hear gear lash/wine with the car jacked up and spinning either wheel, youve lost the trans output shaft more than likely

FourG63 97GST 03-01-2019 02:29 PM

That's what I was thinking, trans shift, wheels turn normal by hand, but I have all neutrals. Ordered a gforce main shaft, I'll disassemble over the weekend. Rematch rescheduled

Yes, Stockish stuff, I have hardened output in the diff.

mykream 03-01-2019 02:33 PM

Not going to be that simple I'm afraid. Depending where it broke, either in or outside of the diff.. You may have some pieces in the diff. I'd have it gone through to be safe.

I can return if needed be, I rather eat the shipping if i dont need it, than to have it shipped out next week.
I'll adapt if the situation is worst when I open it up.

mykream 03-01-2019 04:11 PM

No I mean, the mainshaft is 99% most likely the problem.. But I'm saying pieces of it may be broken inside the diff floating around.

I have a built 4L60 if you're interested. LVL X from RPM.

FourG63 97GST 03-03-2019 11:18 AM

Clean break luckily, was able to tap it out of the diff, i'm thankful

I went thru two main shafts on last z06. Stock 27 and a 30spline.
Did you have the cage around the trans and diff? Also what diff mount do you run?
Replace with a 30, send your pinion to marc@gforce to match the 3spline. Run a cage and a pafdt diff mount, make sure everything is setup good. Just my opinion.
I've got a c6z drivetrain now on my new car, just need to learn how to slip and launch the car when I start tracking again.
Good luck.

Thats exactly what broke on mine last spring. Rolled out in 1st and got to about 35-40mph as the nitrous was ramping and was about to grab 2nd and all of the sudden had 6 neutrals lol. It was a pretty clean break like that too. I sent it in to RPM since the trans was a little tired anyways so it got a few new gears and sychros, 30 spline mainshaft, and machined the diff to accept the 30. I then added an ECS brace. Haven't really dug the car much since but its been holding up great from low rolls.

I have both, ECS diff brace and pfadt trans mount.

Wild imo, that you broke with both supports but you do make power and was the stock 27spline.
G-force makes a 30 Spline 9310 Alloy Mainshaft. Only like $150 more than a stock gm 30spline for the 97-07 t56.
Mark Shifflett mark@gforcetransmissions.com is awesome to work with. Sent him two diff pinion gears to machine the pinion gear to accept the 30spline. I'd put money on no one will compete with his prices.
A t56 with 9310 30spline is top of the line!!!

I'll say there's some user error on my end though, my tires where already warm, and I attempted another reheating where I usually do, but they had layed down a fresh pave I wasn't aware of, so it hooked better than it usually does. So dry sticky surface, 345 Mickeys, something had to give. Bracing just keeps things solid. The mechanic limit was met

And I actually drove it 1.5 hours back home.. Did NOT like left hand turns for some reason...:confused2:

jdwtx85 03-06-2019 10:30 PM

Did that too! mine did not like right turns, drove for few weeks till I thought to pull the diff and found the carnage. Back in 2015 on first car
