'78 Early Fuel Evaporation EFE
For the life of me I cannot locate any type of replacement for the actuator? Any ideas?

The actuator and linkage look the same on my (late) 79. It doesn't actuate with a vacuum applied, though.
Here's a refurbished one on eBay. Perhaps you can replace the diaphragm somehow? And do you need it to work for the SMOG check? Once the car is warmed up, it doesn't do anything. |
That's my original actuator just doesn't hold vacuum Don't think It needs to work to pass smog if engine is warm. Bet I need it for the visual inspection:(.

If I get to my shed this weekend, I'll see if the one I took of my 80 holds vacuum. Otherwise, just make sure the vacuum line is plugged so it doesn't leak. This device actuates a flapper valve in your exhaust, forcing exhaust air up through the intake, to warm the car faster. Odds are, that valve is long gone, too, so the EFE system may not do anything at all.
Why can't CA just measure the actual pollution you put in the air? A well-tuned EFI engine with all the trimmings will be better for the environment. |
If you are still interested, the actuator from my 80 does hold vacuum, and it's connected to a functioning exhaust riser valve. The configuration is a bit different, though, and the rod is shorter. If you need one or both parts, let me know, and I'll try to take it apart carefully.

I finally got it disassembled. It is 1.5" tall, and fits a 2" collector. And it actuates and holds a vacuum.
