A&A kit - need to add meth?
So i installed my A&A kit. Installation was smooth and easy. Got the car down to my tuner and was set to get tuned. The car is a A8 with factory exhaust manifolds and a xpipe back exhaust. I went with the 3.8 pulley for the reason of not having longtubes. Keep in mind the weather was about 20 degrees yesterday for the tune. We started to make pulls and the car was running out of fuel quick! I was only expecting to make around 550 and thought that meth wouldnt be needed to achieve this. I was wrong. Around 4600 rpm we were seeing 7lbs of boost and were out of fuel. I was recommended to come back with a meth kit installed.
What is the best meth kit for our cars? On my 5th gen camaro, i had a aem setup. Im leaning towards a dual nozzle alky control setup with a M10 and M15 nozzle. Thoughts? |
ttt
Yes you need meth just for ins reason on what you have got here you only need a one nozzle one 15 will do good for the stock motor other than the blower on the car.. Robert

You shouldn't need meth at 7psi. Where were they seeing you "run out of fuel"? On the rail pressure or the low side pressure? There are hundreds of cars running around with a Si trim or Novi1500 at 7-8 psi without meth. Call Andy at A&A he will probably just send you a tune for this exact setup. Your tuner either isn't familiar enough with the LT or just trying to sell you a meth setup.
Don't get me wrong adding meth isn't a bad idea and it defiantly gives you room to grow, but for your current setup you don't need it to fuel. If you choose to do it then you just need one 10gpm or 15 and go with Alky. |

The first bottleneck should be the hpfp, and it is definitely going to be ok to 550-575whp. Something is is not right... |

The stock fuel system should be fine on a blower only setup making 7-8lbs of boost. Like others have stated, a meth system will definitely help with fueling when trying to make more power in the future and/or help with IATs with your current setup.

I ran out of fuel on a 3.8 pullied V3 Si with factory exhaust. Power fell on its face at 6100rpm. I was also making more like 10psi on that setup. I added a LT4 HPFP and catless longtubes and max boost dropped to 8.5 PSI and I picked up 57rwhp... no meth here

Right the moment you start peaking over the 8psi mark you need some type of fuel help. Meth is the easiest (and cheapest) at that point, then LT4 hardware, then a cam. Or ALLLLL of it and SEND it. :)
Exactly what I was seeing. LT4 fuel pump fixed my issues, had plenty of fuel to 6600RPM. |
Interesting thread....Was the LT4 fuel pump alone enough to solve your issues or did the pump also require CAM and/or injectors?

Here are my before and afters. First one was V3 Si 3.8" Pulley and all stock exhaust except Borla X-Pipe. They couldn't get more than 11* timing in it and fuel was checking out around 6100, can see the fall on the graph. Second graph has nothing changed except LT4 HPFP and 1 7/8" Catless longtubes, not directly comparable due to being different dynos but at least shows that power carries out. Ignore the red line, that was a test pull on the tune it rolled in on and we were having RPM pickup issues (which is why X axis is in MPH). Best pull was 617/575 but that graph has ugly torque due to the RPM pickup issues.

Pretty simple tried and true tribal knowledge. 7-8 PSI you ok without fueling help.
Anything over 8 you need to start considering meth, LT4 hardware, cam or a combination of them. Then you hit the 700 rwhp (ish) mark where you start needing to think about pistons. |
My fuel pressure is good all the way to 7000 with my YSI and a 3.8. Buuuuut my injector pulsewidth is 6.2ms..

Same here.
Think im going to go with the FIC injectors and modified HPFP. Just don't want to deal with any more controllers. Just purchased a boost controller and am going to use that so I can pulley down a bit to get on boost sooner then cap it at 10psi for now. |

It's been a couple months, but I got the car finished up last week. Although I knew it was going to feel different, I can blown away (pun intended) by the car. I fell in love all over again!
I went a size up on the pulley and installed a catch can. She made 635hp. I NEVER expected that kind of number. Thanks to everyone that dropped some advice on me. Now I get to make her look pretty:) Good numbers |
