Looking for 700-750 whp

Im trying to get to 700 + whp on my 2017 a8. Is it possible to get there with this list of mods?

-cai or green filter (I would prefer to just use the green filter if it works)
-pullies (what combo and will IAT's hold up for a 1/4 mile race or freeway pull before pulling power on stock cooling?)
-catless exhaust with x pipe (I want to keep stock exhaust manifolds and mufflers)
- ported blower and snout
-zr1 95mm TB or different one
-e85 tune (do I need to upgrade injectors or fuel pumps for e85?)

I don't want to open up the engine. Want to run stock cam, heads etc. Is it possible to get there with these mods or im I dreaming lol?

Anyone have a better combo than this to achieve north of 700 whp

Thanks in advanced and any input is much appreciated !!!

It looks like you might get more with the right tune and 93 octane

agreed with the above post

Awesome!! If I can get close to 800 without touching the internals of the motor that would be fantastic! I am a huge fan of e85 as that alone will give you 50 to 70 hp gains

musclesbmf 03-07-2019 02:28 PM

in an automatic with those mods, I don't see you getting over 700 or close.
It is just my opinion...
Also, to run full e85 you will need to run methanol.
The following are my mods and results:
Halltech, ported TB, 2.31 upper pulley, ported snout and blower, flex fuel conversion, dual nozzle meth (alky control), TSP catless longtubes.

Op, do the 18% IW lower, playing around with the 2.31 will hurt you trying to get to the 700whp mark and over. You can get there, just discuss with your tuner. Might need a xpipe to add to the list as well.

forget the x pipe, those arent your restrictive cats. Norcal SS catless pipes replace the restrictive cats. No need to touch the x pipe, those are high flow cats from the factory.

Port your blower and youll be there with pulleys. I wouldnt invest a dime into the air intake boxes if funds are short. A BMS filter is all you need on the stock box. Flex fuel sensor for e85, and youll be good to go.

If you start running out of fuel, then get the double in tank pump, and dont touch the high side. High side looks like its slacking, but only because low side fails to feed the fuel.

And of course, a tune is required for all of this to function.

I agree with this. X.pipe to me gives a better sound not 100% on gains as im still stock. Im not a fan of the cat delete sound but it makes the power, def follow this receipt jere with the right pulley setup and fuel pump and you will get what you want or very close.

If you hear a car with the stock x pipe, and the cat delete pipes from norcal, its not bad, sounds the same as a catless x pipe with stock front cats

Great info so far, thanks guys! Mikec7z can you post your mod list? Anyone else making 700-800 whp would love to hear your mods. Also want to know if im going to have cooling issues after the pullie swap? As long as I can run a 1/4 and a 50-150 pull with out it loosing power im good with that. I don't plan on taking it the the track and lapping it. Thanks again

I got to 675/725 with Haltech, upper/lower pulley changes, ARH, meth, flex fuel, and lowside fuel pump kit. I did a bigger HX/expansion tank because of the extreme heat of the AZ summers. I also added the 2017 lid to get a little extra cooling. Those numbers were on E50ish as AZ has no standard for their "E85" labeled pumps (E50 at minimum). If you run full E85 you may run out of fuel as you need about more fuel up top if you don't have a supplemental/boosted low side fuel pump. For highway pulls or the occasional trips to the drag strip you should be OK with the stock HX. Repeated runs at the track or if you want to make a "hero" run, then you should upgrade the HX and add an ice tank. As a side note, those numbers were in almost 100 degree heat and at 1800 ft altitude. I gained another 25/75 at a lower altitude and at 70 degree temps.

What did all that cost you?

That work was done almost 2 years ago and done in two stages, headers/upper first then lower/meth/flex fuel/cooling mods second. Headers/coating/install was about $3500. Cooling/fueling mods in the $5500 range. Those are the only invoices I could find. My last round that I am finishing this week, blower, H/C, intake, etc is $16K+. Had I known 2 years ago I would have been at this point I would have saved at least $5K by not doing the CAI/pulleys/etc. Live and learn. Like the old saying goes, "speed costs $$$, how fast do you want to go"?
I will have some parts coming off the car that will be sold to offset some of the costs, but not much.

Awesome!

Great work!

i wanna get to a respectable 750rwhp
juat to say I got it

Doesn't that suck! Always when u look back you see what you could have avoided. Funny thing is after reading what you just said ill probably still waste just as much doing pullies... because if I just jump to a new blower i feel like i will have missed out on some fun building the car up through its stages...

gr8del 03-08-2019 12:10 PM

I'm going through the same process myself. At first I bought corsa x-pipe and recently decided to do a pulley/headers so I have to replace the corsa x-pipe.... at least I got a set of Kooks x-pipes used for cheap. But now I'm doing this next round with keeping future growth in mind. Just deciding if I want to stick with pulleys for a while or do a cam and ported heads now too. Something tells me I may be taking a loss on my Mamo TB too as I will likely go to a 95+ later. Oh well.

I will say OP's custom intake is looking sexy, definitely a loss I'd be willing to take haha.

Back to life for this thread. Ok here is what I've got so far. Please chime in with your suggestions.

-Eforce 2300. Got a decent deal on a new one and I couldn't pass it up. It is a stage 1 so I believe its 13lbs of boost for the pulley it comes with. I figured getting the bigger blower vs modding stock one I'll kill 2 birds with one stone being more boost and cooler temps since its not working as hard as the stock one. I imagine I don't need a HX or expansion tank going this route since the blower is doing less work?
-AFE CAI blue filter.
-AFE front cat delete pipes stock x pipe.

I figure this set up is good or to close to 700 whp with a good tune.?

Here is my question: I have another $1000-$1500 to spend and I'm trying to maximize gains for this amount. What should I do? and what gains can I get from that? Here our my options:

Bigger TB? not sure if the eforce will take bigger anyone know?
Meth? (this is the one I'm leaning towards)
Flex fuel? I want to keep stock fuel system so not sure if meth will work in this scenario?
Pullie? Is heat gong to be a issue if we I change it? I really don't want to add HX or expansion tank

I'm good with any of those or combo of 2-3 items. Keep in mind I want to spend only $1000-1500 more in parts.

Thanks for your help!!
